Destiny 2 To Get BattlEye Anti-Cheat on PC

Bungie is clamping down on Destiny 2's hackers by introducing the anti-cheat support software BattleEye.

"From Destiny 2 update 3.2.0, BattleEye will be included as Destiny 2's anti-cheat protection," Bungie stated on its support instructions page. "Bans are manually assessed and applied during the first few weeks. After the soft launch, the system will automatically apply locks.

"BattleEye is Destiny 2's proactive anti-cheat protection that protects our game and players from hacking, cheating, and other harmful attacks. BattleEye uses a smart, dynamic, and fast detection system that quickly removes unrelenting cheaters."

As seen in The Verge reporter Tom Warren's tweet, Bungie has been trialling and testing BattleEye for Destiny 2 internally for several months. He has now corroborated the screenshot which has been circulating online.

However, the screenshot mentions update 3.2.0 which is already live. BattleEye is not present in this update and so it seems that this is a placeholder. It looks as though the software will be implemented in a future update.

Since Tom Warren corroborated the screenshot on Twitter, Bungie locked the support page pictured above with a password, seemingly confirming its validity.

Given that Destiny 2 has had an 50% uptick in cheating since 2020, it isn't surprising that Bungie is making moves to crack down on them. BattleEye is also an unsurprising choice to do so. It's a widely used software that can be found in games such as The Crew 2, PixARK, Conan Exiles, Escape from Tarkov, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, DayZ, Arma 3, and more.

It should be noted that BattleEye is being introduced for PC in order to stop widespread hacking on the platform, not PlayStation or Xbox. However, cross-platform play is coming in season 15 and so if this software isn't implemented before then, hackers could affect those on other platforms. Hopefully, Bungie brings it into fruition before or alongside this update to prevent that.
