Dreams update includes new game, makes creation simpler

Media Molecule has launched a major Dreams update on PlayStation. It includes a full new game crafted by the LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway developers, while also unleashing a raft of improvements.

With Dreamshaping 2.0, Media Molecule is helping to streamline the creation process. For those who haven’t tried it, Dreams offers a huge suite of creative tools that can be tricky to grasp and then memorise, especially when juggling more advanced systems and concepts. Media Molecule is improving the learning resources available to players, reinventing menus and UI while introducing templates.

What’s perhaps most daunting about Dreams is coming up with an interesting idea to work on. These templates will give you a perfect starting point, allowing you to hit the ground running with your very own 2D platformer, side-scrolling shoot ’em up, or dungeon crawler. Hopefully this will entice more would-be Dreamers (ourselves included) to get stuck in.

Speaking of dungeon crawlers, Media Molecule has been working on its own. Ancient Dangers: Bat’s Tale is available to play now. Here’s what you need to know:

Exclusively available to play in Dreams, Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale is a third-person dungeon crawler made by Media Molecule and designed to test the skills of only the bravest adventurers. Whether you’re after frantic combat against strange and silly foes, puzzles to tickle your brain cells, or a showdown against a dragon with huge teeth (and an even bigger ego), Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale has you covered. Playable in single-player or local coop, Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale will be released on November 30, 2021.

Dreams has nearly been with us for two years now, launching on PS4 back in February 2020. We dubbed the creation-fuelled title as Sony’s sleeping giant, awarding Dreams a magnificent 9/10 in our review:

“Taking Media Molecule’s creative ethos to new heights, Dreams is a PlayStation essential. Booting the game up each time and having no idea what awaits is an intoxicating feeling. A remedy, forcing me from the rut of my predictable gaming habits to explore an inner creativity I’m often too lazy or wound up to let free.”
