According to Woolly Mammoth Gaming, the 202 titles given away for free on the Epic Games Store since 2018 are worth a total of $4,338.77 at the listed price. As prices fluctuate, these prices typically go down as a game ages. Woolly Mammoth Gaming also factored in the most recent listed Epic Games Store discount price for each game. If gamers were able to secure each of these freebies at a discount price instead of its listed price, they would have spent $1,483.47.
Using early sales pricing, CaptainGeorge19 calculated that the 202 titles purchased at an older sales price would have run gamers back $1,705.17. The YouTuber was expecting big savings from the Epic Games Store free titles, but they didn't realize just how valuable the titles have been. According to CaptainGeorge19, they were expecting the discount cost of these titles to be closer to $800 rather than $1,000.
In order to compete with other digital storefronts, the Epic Games Store has offered free titles and exclusives since it launched a few years ago. The first freebie on offer through the Epic Games Store was the popular underwater survival title Subnautica. The most recent freebies the Epic Games Store is offering are A Plague Tale: Innocence and Minit which replaced Speed Brawl due to technical issues.
Epic Games Store users typically have just one week to secure the free titles on offer as the storefront is constantly circulating with new ones. The total savings that CaptainGeorge19 has calculated assumes that someone has been able to secure every freebie from the Epic Games Store. CaptainGeorge19 also pointed out that during December, the Epic Games Store offers a free title every day for a limited time.
Also known as Woolly Mammoth Gaming on YouTube, CaptainGeorge19 went into further detail in a recent video. The YouTuber pointed out that the Epic Games Store has had a total of 14 titles that have been free multiple times since 2018. These repeated free offers include Overcooked, Into the Breach, and Celeste.
CaptainGeorge19 has confirmed that Epic Games Store users don't have to own a PC in order to secure these free titles. As long as someone has an Epic Games Store account and claims the game, they will be able to download and play the games whenever they do acquire a PC. The Epic Games Store continues to release free titles, so the savings will continue to roll in for fans of the PC storefront.
