Every Pokemon Revealed In New Pokemon Snap Update Including Ursaring

Four months on from its initial launch, New Pokemon Snap is getting a surprise update. It's not adding a new outfit or an alternate look for your NEO-ONE either, three all-new paths to the game. The Lental Region will be expanded on August 3 to include the Mightywide River, Barren Badlands, and Secret Side Path. That last one will see the aforementioned NEO-ONE shrink down to a tiny size so that you can see the Pokemon you're snapping from a whole new perspective.

The update alsos bring 20 new Pokemon to the Lental Region, bringing Pokemon Snap's Photodex total up to 234. Not all of the Pokemon being added to New Pokemon Snap are shown in the update's trailer, but we think we've spotted nine of them, including a blink-and-you'll-miss-it bear cameo. Below are the nine additions confirmed via the trailer, and where you can see them for yourselves as you watch along.

The very first new addition you see in the trailer is one from the Pokemon's very first generation. Psyduck can be seen swimming at the bottom of the screen at 0:58, and is then shown again sliding down a waterfall, presumably to be found in the new Mightwide River area. You can see the Psychic-type's bill breaking the surface of the water at 1:03. However, you don't get a proper look at Psyduck until you leave the cave and it splashes down into the pool below. Psyduck's inclusion implies Golduck might also be one of the 20 new additions, but that isn't guaranteed.

Before you get your first proper look at Psyduck, the next new Pokemon gets a far clearer introduction into New Pokemon Snap. Tropius, perhaps the most heavily-featured new Pokemon in the trailer, can be seen basking on the far side of the river into which Psyduck eventually descends at 1:04. Once out of the cave, more of them can be seen on the riverbank and even more of them alongside a different part of the river about ten seconds later.

Hiding above the first Tropius you see is perhaps the hardest new Pokemon to spot in the trailer. We had to rewatch and pause over and over again to confirm our suspicions, but now, we're 100 percent sure. After countless viewings, we can confirm that is Ursaring climbing a tree as it looks down on that first Tropius. Get your camera ready as you fly down that waterfall as if its brief appearance in the trailer is anything to go by, Ursaring is going to be a tough Pokemon to snap.

A few seconds later, Swalot is far less hidden at 1:07, though it appears to be on a different map. As is the case with Psyduck and Golduck, Swalot's addition could mean Gulpin will become a part of the Photodex too, but that won't be confirmed until the update goes live. Swalot making short work of the fluffruit it has been throw is also the first glimpse of the Barren Badlands area you get in the trailer.

Rockruff is up next and is even easier to spot. The Rock-type is more than happy to have its photo taken, which is more than can be said of its evolution Lycanroc. While Lycanroc are easy to find in the base game, they're pretty angry Pokemon and do not take kindly to having their picture snapped, being hit with a fluffruit, or pretty much anything else that might happen to them as you glide past in your NEO-ONE. The fact Lycanroc arrived before Rockruff does mean that just because we're seeing some evolved forms here doesn't guarantee that the rest of the families will show up too.

Two seconds later and you get that second look at some Tropius on the riverbank, but it's the Pokemon in the river at this point that draws your gaze. Feraligatr can be seen gracefully swimming downstream, which hopefully means Totodile and Croconaw will also be lurking somewhere in the Mightywide River area. Typhlosion is in the base game without Cyndaquil and Quilava though so again, no guarantees.

One Pokemon that will finally be joined by its evolutionary partner once the new update goes live is Magikarp. At 1:16, Gyarados makes what might well be the grandest entrance of any Pokemon so far in New Pokemon Snap. The Gen 1 Water-type leaps out of a waterfall right towards you, the NEO-ONE, and most importantly of all, your camera. As demonstrated in the trailer, that Gyarados leap is going to make for some pretty spectacular photos.

The final two Pokemon shown off in the new trailer can both be found in the Secret Side Path area once the NEO-ONE has shrank down to a much smaller size. The first is Shroomish, which makes its grand entrance at 1:28. A couple of them can be seen with a blue and white mushroom sitting in the long grass behind them – we initally thought this mushroom was the hidden belly of an Azumarill, but our hopes were dashed when we realised it was just a mushroom.

Last but most certainly not least is Snorlax, appearing in New Pokemon Snap for the first time at 1:41. Since you will be much smaller when you happen upon Snorlax, the sleepy Pokemon will appear to be even bigger than usual. You'll have no problem filling the frame when you hand your photos over to Professor Mirror to be graded, that's for sure. A rundown of all nine Pokemon we spotted in the trailer can be found below, and there'll be 11 more to find once the update goes live on August 3.

  • Psyduck
  • Tropius
  • Ursaring
  • Swalot
  • Rockruff
  • Feraligatr
  • Gyarados
  • Shroomish
  • Snorlax
