Everything We’re Ready to Do Again in The Witcher 3’s PS5 and Xbox Series X Versions

Many fans are no doubt awaiting the release of The Witcher 3’s PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade, which is still slated to release some time this year. It should be noted that CD Projekt Red has recently commented on its release and would not guarantee that The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades do come this year. Nonetheless, they are coming at some point.

For fans of The Witcher 3, that’s all that is really necessary to get hyped. Waiting to play the game with not just new DLC but new power from the latest consoles should prove to be worthwhile. Still, there are a few specifics we are ready to experience again, come its eventual release.

Geralt and Ciri’s Relationship

It goes without saying that the overarching story to The Witcher 3 is a masterclass in storytelling; the same can be said of The Witcher 3’s two major DLC expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, as they set a bar for storytelling that few have been able to reach. Still, the shining detail out of all of it is Geralt and Ciri’s father/daughter-like relationship. Every scene with the two is a showstopper, and finding a way to save her from The Wild Hunt again will see all those scenes come to life again.

The Romances of The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 has lore that explains Geralt’s romantic tendencies, that being the increased mutation libido, and that results in quite a few romances from the character ranging from one-time things to smaller relationships to bigger ones. While romancing Keira Metz, Madama Sasha, Jutta an Dimun, Shani, or Syanna are all rewarding in their own right, it’s romancing Yennefer and/or Triss that is unique. Each has a strong ending to accompany the main Witcher 3 endings, but for those players who try to do both, the result is hilarious justice. Because of this, The Witcher 3’s romances are to be remembered and experienced all over again.

Play Some Gwent

Many know and love Gwent as the card game from the Witcher universe, and it was so popular that it received its own game. However, there’s nothing quite like playing a few rounds of Gwent in The Witcher 3. With the upcoming upgrades, it’s not likely Gwent changes at all, but if for the challenge or nostalgia of doing it all again, many will be happy to give the card game another go.

The Witcher 3’s Monster Contracts

Side quests are difficult for a lot of games to get right, with some muddying them down to fetch quests, monster hunts, and the like. This can make getting into the roleplaying spirit more difficult, but thanks to the general premise of The Witcher 3’s monster contracts, that’s not really the case here. As a Witcher, Geralt hunts monsters for a living, and sustaining one’s self during all of his questings is a simple connection. As such, stepping into his shoes to hunt monsters is only natural, and thankfully, there are several that are quite memorable: Devil By The Well, Swamp Thing, The Oxenfurt Drunk, The White Lady, Skellige’s Most Wanted, and more.

Memorable Witcher 3 Locations

Of course, the sheer beauty of the Witcher 3 is something that PS5 and Xbox Series X can bring to life even more. While they are not all necessarily created equal, there are stand-out areas everywhere. For example, the bustling city of Novigrad is full of mystery, life, and fun times, and it’ll look great come The Witcher 3’s upcoming re-release. Kaer Morhen, on the other hand, is a run-down fortress—a completely different aesthetic, but one that brings the role of Witchers and their history to life. Finally, the Skellige Islands deserve a mention because it’s a nice break away from the rest of the world, with a unique lore and culture unto its own on The Continent.

The Witcher 3 is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
