F1 2021 Tops The Boxed Chart For A Second Week

F1 2021 is making the most of a severe lack of new releases and has managed to make it two straight weeks at the top of the UK's physical chart.

2021 has been a great year for games thus far and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. However, we are currently in the middle of a rare dry patch, and some of the games released before the launch calendar dried up are making the most of it. Most notably F1 2021 which has made it two weeks in a row at the top of the UK boxed chart.

The newest installment in the F1 series actually failed to debut at number one during its launch weekend. That's due to the fact The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD's arrival shared that same weekend. The remake of the Wii game became just the fourth game in Zelda's history to top the boxed chart in the UK. The continued appearances of Mario and Animal Crossing in the same chart suggest there's a lot more love for other Nintendo IP over Link in the UK.

Skyward Sword has managed to remain in the top two since then for the same reason F1 2021 has remained at number one. A lack of new releases. According to the latest chart, courtesy of Push Square, the only new release to crack the top ten last week was Neo: The World Ends With You. Even Neo only just managed to break the ten best-sellers, entering the fray at number ten.

Elsewhere it is unsurprisingly business as usual. Minecraft, GTA 5, and FIFA 21 are all in there. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020: The Official Video Game is an unfamiliar entry at number eight, though. An expected jump in sales for the official game of the Olympics though since the games are in full swing. Clearly, many in the UK have been inspired to try out some of the sports they've been watching for themselves, but not enough to do them for real.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has slipped out of the top ten after a resurgence brought about by a fresh batch of PS5s arriving in the UK. That didn't happen last week which has resulted in the celebrated sequel slipping all the way to number 40. Since Rift Apart has been bundled with PS5s in the UK, that significant drop isn't all that surprising.
