Ubisoft released Far Cry 5 back in 2018, but the title continues to reach new fans ahead of the release of Far Cry 6. Now a whole new group of gamers can give the game a try for a limited time.
Fans of Far Cry looking to try out the latest installment without putting money down will be able to play the game at their leisure from August 5 until August 8. This limited-time Far Cry 5 free weekend will allow diehard fans to play through a large chunk of Hope County and Ubisoft has also confirmed a discount for the game for any gamers who wish to continue their journey beyond August 8.

According to the official Far Cry Twitter account, Far Cry 5 will be 85% off over the limited-time free weekend. This may entice some gamers who give the game a try between August 5 and August 8 to pick up Far Cry 5 at a significantly reduced price. While some players may be able to blast through a lot of the content over the weekend, many gamers may only get a taste of Hope County and want to see more.
This temporary free period for Far Cry 5 may be of particular interest to Xbox Series X/S owners who are looking to experience more FPS boosted titles. Other Far Cry titles that offer FPS Boost include Far Cry 4, Far Cry New Dawn, and Far Cry Primal, so Xbox fans may end up going down a rabbit hole after this free weekend. Ubisoft has seen success doing free weekends for various titles including Far Cry ones in the past, most notably The Division 2.
Many fans responded to the announcement of Far Cry 5's free weekend with reminders to Ubisoft that the game is still listed at a high price without the discount. These fans point to the game's 2018 release date as a sign that its base price may be reduced after the 85% sale is over. Other fans of Ubisoft were less optimistic, suggesting the game will stay at a high price even beyond the release of Far Cry 6.
Some Far Cry 5 players took to the replies to the official Far Cry Twitter account to lament the fact that they've already purchased and played through their copy. Many of the players who have already burned through Far Cry 5 recommended it to new players, with some sharing screen-capped proof of their achievements.
One Twitter user spoke candidly in response to the Far Cry Twitter account when encouraging more free weekends. They pointed out how these free limited-time trials of games are a great way to let gamers try a title before buying it and suggested coinciding them with launch windows. Several PlayStation fans implored Ubisoft to update Far Cry 5 with an FPS boost on the PS5.
Far Cry 5 is available right now for Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
