Fortnite Disables Emotes For March Through Time Event

I wish I could be a fly on the wall at Epic’s Fortnite collaboration meetings. While listening to the team deliberate over which new character to toss into the game would be fun, I think the meeting for the ongoing March Through Time event would have been way more interesting.

The event is a collaboration with Time Magazine which involves an interactive museum where players could listen to Martin Luther King Jr.'s inspiring ‘I have a dream’ speech. While it was already a bit weird that players would be listening to the iconic speech while dressed as superheroes, athletes, or some other ridiculous character, things got distasteful when some people started using emojis and dances while the speech was being delivered.

In response, Epic has now removed all emotes from the event, except the eight that were created especially for it. As noted by Kotaku, it seems Epic had already removed a few emotes that would have looked especially bad during the event, but that was apparently not enough.

Tim Sweeny mentioned that the event “builds on everything learned from the We The People event.” It also includes the full 17 minute long speech and not just the final three minutes that people are more familiar with. According to Sweeny, “perhaps not the cutting commentary and call to action that precedes it.”

It looks like Fortnite is about to add Mike Lowry to the game. If you don’t know who that is, it’s Will Smith’s character from the Bad Boys movies. The character model and release date were leaked by Fortnite source Hypex. They previously also revealed that the game will be having a crossover collaboration with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next movie, Shang-Chi.

HYPEX had previously leaked the now released Morty skin for Fortnite as well. The character is wearing the mech suit similar to what Snowball used in the Lawnmower Dog episode. His back bling is a backpack with a Meseeks box in it, whilst his pickaxe is the snake that he tried to send into space in Rattlestar Ricklactica.

Another Fortnite source, Shiina revealed the King Shark and Weasel from The Suicide Squad will also be coming to the game.
