Guardian Shields can be very helpful blocking shots if you find yourself in a pickle in Fortnite.
Block shots while holding a Guardian Shield has appeared as a quest in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, calling you to use this brand new, defensive item.
The quest has five stages, each awarding you with 16,000 XP, meaning if you fully complete it, you’ll earn 80,000 XP, which will give you a nice boost for the battle pass.
Now, let’s see where you can find a Guardian Shield hiding, as the chances of it spawning as floor loot are significantly low.
Where can you find Guardian Shields in Fortnite?
The best way to find the Guardian Shields in Fortnite is to open Oathbound Chests. There is a small chance you may also locate them in normal chests, supply drops or see one spawn as floor loot.
Although Oathbound Chests are spread throughout the island of Asteria, you’re not guaranteed to find a Guardian Shield in every single one. This means you might need to open quite a few before you can obtain this defensive item in game.
Like normal chests, Oathbound Chests don’t always spawn in the same spot either. However, there are three locations where there always seems to be a high number of Oathbound Chest spawns.
These three hot spots are:
- The Citadel
- Faulty Splits
- Shattered Slabs

How to block shots with a Guardian Shield in Fortnite
Once you’ve found a Guardian Shield, the next step to complete the quest is to challenge an opponent.
To block shots while holding a Guardian Shield, you simply need to equip it and press the same button as you would to shoot a weapon.
The Guardian Shield will then appear in front of you, protecting you from incoming damage.
You can also press the aim button to throw your Guardian Shield on the floor, which will deploy it in a set location.

However, this method won’t count towards the quest’s objective, as you need to be holding the Guardian Shield.
You need to keep in mind that the shield’s power will drain over time, so it won’t protect you forever.
If it’s starts turning pink, it means that it’s nearly drained, so you better start planning your next steps. You can see how long you have left by checking the bar next to the shield in your inventory.
When the shield’s energy is depleted, it will be disabled, but after a 10-second cooldown, you can use it once again.
