Gardevoir Joins Pokemon Unite, Charizard Gets Nerfed

Pokemon Unite's very first update has added Gardevoir to its available roster, and also made Charizard a little less powerful in the process.

Pokemon Unite launched on Nintendo Switch last week, introducing the franchise and its monsters to the MOBA world for the very first time. Unite is giving Pokemon fans who have previously steered clear of MOBAs, whether intentionally or not, a chance to see the fictional universe they love through an entirely new lens. It's also free to play and will be coming to mobile later this year.

The roster is limited, but would be overwhelming if that was not the case. It will also be added to over time and has already received its first new addition just a week on from Unite's launch. Gardevoir is now available as a playable Pokemon, adding a brand new ranged attack option to your roster.

Providing you want to add Gardevoir to your roster, of course. It all depends on what you want to spend your hard-earned Aeos Coins on. Gardevoir will cost you 8000 of them and is probably worth the virtual money if you're looking to add a strong attacker to your list of options. The psychic/fairy-type isn't all that great on the defensive front though, so be on the lookout for the new Pokemon should you see someone else using it.

Tencent has not released a full list of patch notes for Unite's first update. It has revealed that a certain Charizard bug has been fixed, though. The fire-type's Unite move became very powerful while it was holding the Muscle Band, arguably making it a little OP. The band will now activate on every other auto-attack as opposed to every single one, which some players might consider a Charizard nerf.

The update doesn't appear to have made any changes to Gengar, one of Unite's Pokemon that some have highlighted is a lot more OP than Charizard holding a Muscle Band. When Gengar is fully evolved and knows the moves Hex and Sludge Bomb, the gen one favorite appears to be almost unstoppable. That remains true for the time being, but you'll need to know how to farm levels effectively early on if you want to make the most of the ghost-type's potential dominance.
