Genshin Impact This Week: Fighting, Fog, And Fish Swords

This week's biggest Genshin Impact news is, of course, everything coming out of the version 2.1 livestream special event, where we discover all of the new goodies ahead. We'll be recapping everything we learned about the upcoming patch, expected to launch on September 1 after Yoimaya's banner expires. Alongside this, we'll take a look at the events happening in-game this week. However, before we look too far ahead, here's a quick recap of what's going on right now.

Teyvat Closes Out And Ushers In New Events

Firstly, there's still time to play Theater Mechanicus. The event will continue until August 26, so if you haven't already played, then now's the time. All you need to do is head over to Inazuma City and speak to Komakata, who you'll find near the firework shop. The event mostly works the same way as the Liyue version, but the way towers are buffed has been changed. If you're stuck, then make sure to refer to our guide on how to play Theatre Mechanicus, which covers both versions and highlights the changes.

You'll also notice that another new event has started today, Phantom Flow. As with other recent events, this one will require you to be Adventure Rank 30 or above and to have unlocked the main islands in Inazuma.

Over the next seven days, new challenges will unlock. Each arena-based fight has three difficulty levels, two modes, and four goals to achieve. As with previous events like this, the world level will not affect the challenge, and rewards include primogems, Hero's Wit, Mora, and talent leveling materials.

Phantom Flow is now live and runs until August 30, 2021, at 3:59 server time.

Mihoyo Forecasts Clear Skies

This week we were also treated to a view of Teyvat without its fog. Thanks to Redditor Able_Importance1964 we got to see Teyvat in all its beautiful glory, after a glitch removed the gloom. The world has always been beautiful, but with a clear sky, it's even more stunning.

New Banners, Events, And Free Primos

Speaking of good-looking things, you can also now take a look at the trailer for version 2.1.

The next update isn't due out until September, but we're still getting excited now, thanks to the livestream showcasing new characters, teasing a storyline update, and showing us brand-new fishing mechanics. There was even a claymore that looks like a fish, not something we expected to see!

This update looks to be packed with plenty more to explore, but this time around, not everything is focused on Inazuma. The Moonchase festival will be coming to Liyue, and will bring with it a story involving Keqing and Xiangling cooking and tasting local delicacies, something sure to attract Paimon's attention.

The festival will also send players on a treasure hunt around Mondstadt, Liyue, and Dragonspine to collect chests and charms, which can be exchanged for different rewards.

Looking at confirmed upcoming characters, we can expect to see new five-star electro polearm user Baal, also known as Raiden Shogun, appearing on the first banner alongside four-star electro bow user Kujou Sara.

Sangonomiya Kokomi, a five-star hydro catalyst user, will follow. Those with PS4 or PS5 accounts can also get Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, a cryo bow character, for free. Aloy will be distributed by mail in version 2.1 to PlayStation players, with all other platform users receiving her in version 2.2, which is expected to be released in mid-October.

In terms of new challenges, we'll see a Hydro Hyperstasis, two new islands to explore, and a brand new weekly boss. As the update draws closer, we'll explore more of the upcoming content in greater depth, including the new fishing skill, which appears to be linked to purchasable ponds you can buy for your Serenitea pot, as well as the brand new Claymore that looks like a fish.
