Glitchpunk Is For Those Who Wished Cyberpunk 2077 Was More Like Classic GTA

According to Glitchpunk, we're still many moons away from getting past the Cyberpunk fad in gaming. And considering how that game still seems to be many moons away from being finished (especially on last-gen consoles), that situation isn't likely to change soon.

So why not ride the Cyberpunk wave with Glitchpunk, a game that's less inspired by the cyberpunk aesthetic and more inspired by classic top-down shooters like GTA 2?

There's really no getting past the GTA comparisons, so we're just going to list 'em out for you right here. Just imagine the words "like GTA" following every sentence of the next paragraph.

Glitchpunk is a top-down shooter that features 2D sprites in a 3D world. You can steal cars and drive them around a sprawling metropolis. There's an in-game radio with music from indie artists and a comical news station with "absurd commercials." The GUI shows your current cash, a radar of all nearby objectives and enemies, as well as your current "wanted" level that ranges from 1 to 10 stars. And there’s a giant armory of melee and ranged weapons for you to commit atrocities to gangs, police, and civilians alike.

With the GTA elements out of the way, Glitchpunk also tells the story of an android who somehow goes against her own programming to take on mega-corporations and despotic drug-fueled criminal enterprises. The game will span four cities when it's done and feature "several endings." There's even a possibility of winding up with a lover.

To start, Glitchpunk will hit Steam Early Access on August 11 with just two cities: Outpost Texas and New Baltia. The story and cities on offer will expand later during development with Neo Tokyo and Moscow. Each city will have its own gangs, corporations, police, and special characters that you'll be able to interact with or murder–whichever you prefer.
