God Mode Explained – Hades

Quick Links

Hades is a roguelite, and if it's your first, it is going to feel a bit overwhelming at times. Roguelike and roguelite games are defined by repetition – if you fail, you'll return to the beginning. Hades is forgiving, in that it does at least allow you to keep hold of resources to make you more powerful in future runs. But even then, the difficulty can feel steep. Luckily, you can tone things down a notch if you just want to be able to reach new floors and defeat new enemies.

If you're just not vibing with how the game has gone so far for you, it's time to enable God Mode. God Mode is available at any point in the game, and although it sounds like the ultimate solution to your problems, it does remove all challenge from the game. For details on how it works, just read through our full explanation below.

How To Activate God Mode – Hades

Activating God Mode is actually a very simple task, but it doesn't give you many details on what God Mode actually does. For that information, read down below.

If you want to give God Mode a try, just follow these instructions.

  • First, open the Pause Menu.
  • Go to Settings.
  • You will see a check box for God Mode in the lower half of the screen.
  • Make sure the God Mode check box is marked, and then exit.

Activating God Mode is as simple as that, and you can turn it on and off whenever you wish, making those tougher bosses and monsters much more approachable. If you're feeling demoralised and want to give up, consider giving the game a few more tries on God Mode, and you might find yourself enjoying things much more. Now let's explain why.

What God Mode Does – Hades

God Mode isn't like the old PS2 invincibility cheats, instead it's a bit more nuanced than that. Yes, God Mode will have you surviving long past your old limits, but you won't be able to tank every hit. Playing in God Mode does not mean you will instantly have an easy time.

When you activate God Mode, Zagreus gets a 20% damage resistance buff. That's a very good place to start, but Zagreus will also receive an extra 2% damage resistance each time a run ends in death. Die enough times while using God Mode, and you can have a maximum of 80% damage resistance.

This buff is called Deus Ex Machina, and you probably don't need an explanation on why. This divine intervention will make it much easier for Zagreus to ascend out of the Underworld, as long as you keep playing past each death. By the time you've amassed 80% damage resistance, you'll likely be more than skilled enough to take down the last few bosses in the game.
