Godfall: How to Activate Inner Focus | Game Rant

Counterplay Games' Godfall is set for a revival. Not only has the game released expansions and updates, but Godfall also recently arrived onto the PS4, a console with a larger install base.

The Fire and Darkness and Primal updates address some of the game's flaws, such as vanilla Godfall's lackluster loot rewards. But others still need fixing. Namely, the game is sometimes vague on how some of its mechanics actually work.

For example, Godfall's trophy "Dervish" asks players to activate Inner Focus 100 times. But the game doesn't explicitly teach the player what Inner Focus is, or how to activate it. Thankfully, it's not a difficult skill to learn.

Inner Focus is a buff state. When a player activates Inner Focus, they spend meter to get a limited time damage boost. It's an all or nothing spend, and the more meter a player spends, the more damage Inner Focus deals.

Note that Inner Focus does not work with all of Godfall's weapons. It's a skill exclusive to dual blade weapons.

A player needs to complete some prerequisites in Godfall before they can use Inner Focus. First they need to unlock the "Weapon Skills" node on the skill tree. This unlocks northern and southern techniques for each weapon. Inner focus is a northern technique.

Second, they need to equip a dual blade weapon. Thankfully, the weapon's strength or rarity does not matter. The only thing that matters is the weapon type.

Lastly, they need to fight long enough to fill the yellow meter at the bottom right of the screen, above the weapon icon. A player only needs to fill one section of the bar, but Inner Focus is more effective with a full bar.

Once these prerequisites are met, a player can press L2 + R1 or L2 + R2. The player character will glow, signalling that Inner Focus is active.

It depends on what a player is looking for. For a player that likes to platinum their games, it's a must. There's a trophy for it.

Inner Focus has a short casting animation, which leaves the player wide open. In standard PvE sections, especially when a player is playing Godfall in co-op, this isn't a huge issue. But this opening can be a huge problem during boss fights or against higher level enemies, especially when playing solo.

In those situations, it might be better to use the dual blade's southern technique, Mortal Coil, which pulls standard enemies toward the player and pulls the player toward bosses. If that isn't helpful or doesn't fit their playstyle, they might want to have another weapon type in their back pocket to switch to.

Godfall is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
