GTA Online Removing Jobs

GTA Online's latest update has removed some of the game's jobs in order to make room for future features.

Eight years on from its launch and GTA Online continues to receive weekly updates. With good reason too as the game continues to sell incredibly well – 145 million copies and counting – and has a very active online community. This week's update brings with it a handful of new Survival maps, but an unfamiliar disclaimer at the foot of the page also reveals it has taken some content away.

Or at least it will do in the future. The small addendum on the Rockstar website reads, “we will begin removing individual Jobs to make room for further updates. These Jobs will be cycled in and out over time as we continue to add to the game in the future.” Jobs are things like races and deathmatches players can start by using their in-game phone or by perusing the pause menu's jobs section.

As highlighted by Eurogamer, the removal of jobs has already begun. The Bombushka Run Adversary Mode, which was added to GTA Online almost four years ago, is currently unavailable. Since Rockstar has stated older jobs will be cycled in and out, it will likely be back in the future. For now, there is still plenty more to choose from.

One of the new features some of GTA Online's older jobs will be making way for is new maps. Don't get too excited, we're not talking about the addition of Vice City. New maps for GTA Online's survival missions. This also may be the start of Rockstar ramping up to GTA 5's new-gen versions launching. The eight-year-old game will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S this November.

As for what lies beyond November for the GTA series, that remains a mystery. Rumors surrounding GTA 6 continue to swirl, the latest of which claims an all-new game won't be here until at least 2025. With so much left to squeeze out of GTA 5 and GTA Online, that makes a lot of sense on Rockstar's part. The new generation of consoles will be in full swing by that point too, allowing GTA 6 to make the most of everything they have to offer.
