Hades Wins A Bunch More Awards, Surprising Nobody

At this point, Hades has won so many awards that it's getting a little hard to keep track. There was that sweep at this year's BAFTA awards, five wins at the DICE awards (including game of the year), the Nebula award for best writing, and three more wins at GDC (once again taking game of the year). And besides all those wins, Hades also retains its top spot among TheGamer's editors and even became the top-rated game on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S a week after being released on the next-gen console.

So when Gamescom wrapped up last week with the International Game Developers Association’s (IGDA) Global Industry Game Awards, it was hardly surprising that Hades once again swept a quarter of the categories.

The Global Industry Game Awards was held in partnership with Gamescom’s Devcom, a first-ever global awards ceremony to "fill an absence of game award shows that highlight the accomplishments of individuals and their teams.” Hades won nine of the 39 available categories, including 2D animation, 2D character design, UI art, voice acting, systems design, UI/UX, dialogue, narrative design, and representation.

Other big winners from the night included Ghost of Tsushima, which took best sound design, audio technology, world building, and 3D environment art; The Last Of Us Part II, which won 3D animation, cinematography, and story; and Half-Life: Alyx, which took best level design, achievements in new technology, and gameplay technology.

But with Hades taking nearly a quarter of the categories, it was Supergiant that was the clear winner at the Global Industry Game Awards. You can watch the ceremony above to see how exhausted Supergiant is getting with having to accept all these awards.
