Insiders believe one of the announcements at today’s Xbox 20th anniversary stream will be an early release date for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer.

Microsoft has already set expectations for the Xbox 20th anniversary livestream taking place later this afternoon, stating that there will be no new game announcements. So, don’t expect to see that rumoured Wu-Tang Clan game during proceedings.

However, rumours are circulating that there will be one major reveal related to Halo Infinite. Specifically, that the game’s multiplayer mode will release today, several weeks before the official launch date.

On November 11, HaloDotAPI, a known Halo leaker, posted key art for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer with the tagline ‘Heroes of Reach – November 15, 2021’ on Twitter. As a reminder, Heroes of Reach is the name of the multiplayer’s first season of content.

The following day, Twitter user Adam Fairclough discovered references to November 15 in the source code for Halo Infinite’s page on the Xbox Store website. The code also mentions 18:00/6pm (the time the anniversary stream begins) and the phrase ‘pre-order release date.’ Since then, the data was updated to change the date to December 8, Halo Infinite’s scheduled release date.

A few prominent insiders have also suggested that Microsoft is planning an early multiplayer release. The Verge’s Tom Warren posted a GIF of Halo Infinite with the comment ‘me launching into Monday morning’ and Tom Henderson (who has previously shared accurate info on other multiplayer shooters like Battlefield 2042) has stated that people will get to play Halo Infinite’s multiplayer today.

In addition, earlier today, several players discovered that codes they received for Halo Infinite content unlocks, like armour and cosmetics, had been redeemed. Considering the full game is still a few weeks away, many see this as further evidence of the multiplayer releasing in the very near future.

As Henderson states, it’s always possible for plans to change at the last minute, but it might be worth keeping an eye on today’s anniversary stream so you don’t miss a potential official confirmation.

Speaking of the stream, it’s speculated that another of the announcements will be for improved backwards compatibility for select Xbox 360 games, due to several of them (including a few Bethesda titles) suddenly receiving new updates.

Halo Infinite releases for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on December 8.

As of 1 hour ago there have been no signs or indications of a delay to the rumors of people playing #HaloInfinite tomorrow.
