Here’s How The Medium Will Take "Full Advantage" Of PS5’s DualSense

The Medium is launching on PS5 this September, and Bloober Team has big plans for its DualSense controller. According to Szymon Erdmanski, producer on The Medium, the game will take "full advantage" of the controller to create a more immersive experience and offer a deeper look at the mystery of the Niwa Hotel.

Since it launched last year, games have been hit-or-miss when it comes to properly utilizing everything the DualSense controller has to offer. Astro's Playroom showed how it's supposed to work, but most other titles have simply tacked on awkward haptics or failed to use adaptive triggers to their full potential. From the looks of it, The Medium is already on the right track – here's a bit of what you can expect:

  • Haptic Feedback when using Spirit Shield
  • Adaptive Trigger tension changes when charging up Spirit Blast
  • Light Bar glows red when in danger

Erdmanski also mentioned "hand-picked moments" from the game will feature some form of haptics but doesn't want to spoil them before fans have had a chance to check them out. Beyond that, expect to see plenty of other nifty DualSense features.

"These are only a few of the examples of how the DualSense controller will work when playing The Medium on PS5," Erdmanski said. "On top of it, we’re including support for the controller’s speaker, touchpad, light bar, and motion controls."

After launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC last year, The Medium arrived on Xbox Game Pass last month. If you're unfamiliar with the horror game, it has you playing as Marianne – a medium investigating an abandoned hotel resort as she tries to find answers to a strange vision she's been having. It uses a unique two-world perspective to solve puzzles and survive harrowing encounters with horrifying enemies – and earned positive reviews at launch.

Here's hoping The Medium follows in the footsteps of Astro's Playroom and makes proper use of the DualSense controller.
