Hogwarts Legacy won't be coming to PC and consoles until sometime in the year 2022, but that hasn't stopped diehard Harry Potter fans from figuring out everything they can from the trailer. Not much is known about the game just yet, but Redditor Inspector_Beyond is seeking to change that by mapping out the different areas of the Hogwarts castle. Given the game's title, it's safe to assume that a lot of time will be spent in Hogwarts, so it will be interesting to see how faithful the recreation of this iconic location in the wizarding world ends up being. At the same time, Inspector_Beyond's work has shown that there's still a lot of room for creative license within the walls of this castle.
Although Harry Potter himself may be the most well-known alumni from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, plenty of other iconic characters from the franchise spent their early years in its halls. As such, a lot of the castle has already been mapped out so to speak by the original seven books and other supplementary material. Hogwarts Legacy can use this information when designing the castle, but there are still several places that aren't used in any books or Harry Potter media.

Inspector_Beyond breaks up the castle into three sections. Areas circled in green are places that have already appeared in an official manner somewhere in the wizarding world. These spaces include the Boat House, the Headmaster Towers, the Herbology Greenhouses, and more. Next, areas circled in yellow are places that have appeared in books or other media but whose locations aren't necessarily confirmed. Only two locations fit into this category, those being the Gryffindor Commons and the Ravenclaw Tower.
What's truly surprising about this map is that there are at least four full parts of the castle that have not ever been explored by books or movies. Avalanche Software can make its own decisions about what to put into these sections of the castle. What's more, Inspector_Beyond admits thatdepictions of Hogwarts itself seem to contradict each other at every turn, so there's really no concrete answer as to what all of these locations are.
Once the game finally releases in 2022, players will be able to see for themselves how detailed the map of Hogwarts is within the game. Hardcore Harry Potter fans also see this as a potential for an official, full map of the iconic castle, finally putting debates about its layout and structure to rest. Only time will tell.
