How To Beat Monsieur Scarlet In Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling

Quick Links

Much of the time, it’s easy to spend the majority of an RPG game completing all the smaller tasks and side-quests. Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is quite long and this is in no small part due to the number of optional missions. While some of them revolve around finding specific items for characters, others require you to defeat challenging enemies and mini-bosses.

Around Chapters 2 and 3, a fellow explorer named Levi will post a quest called “Assistance Needed.” Accepting this quest will lead you and your team to encounter a villain named Monsieur Scarlet. One of the more difficult mini-bosses, you’ll need power and strategy to defeat him.

Monsieur Scarlet’s Behavior

Monsieur Scarlet entices unwitting explorers by asking for help, seduces them with his charm, and then drains their lifeforce. He’s an elegant but terrifying opponent with a lot of power.

  • Stats: Scarlet has moderately high HP, no starting Defense, and high Attack power. On average, he can deal about 4-6 points of damage with any attack. He also moves very quickly, so it can be hard to time Blocks effectively.
  • Regeneration: What makes Scarlet a particularly tricky opponent is his regeneration. All of his attacks hit hard and most of them restore health, even with a successful Block. They restore anywhere between 4-8 points of health.
  • Attacks: Scarlet uses four distinct attacks.

    • 1. A strong uppercut that hits one character for high damage and regeneration.
    • 2. He throws his umbrella at one character, hitting them once on the way out and again on the way back. It hits for moderate damage and regeneration.
    • 3. A magic attack that summons energy under the whole party for moderate damage and regeneration.
    • 4. A fast shockwave that hits one character for low damage and no regeneration.
  • Boost: When Scarlet has less than half of his health, he’ll change his stance and get a permanent boost to Attack and Defense until the end of the battle.

Effective Tactics Against Monsieur Scarlet

Monsieur Scarlet is an enemy you want to defeat as quickly as possible. As such, your strategy should revolve around minimizing his actions and maximizing your damage.

  • Stock up on Teamwork Point (TP) restoring items. Skills are the most powerful actions in your arsenal and you want to be able to use them consistently.
  • Use Leif’s Frigid Coffin skill. This single-target ice attack does decent damage and only costs 3 TP to use. It has a high chance to freeze Scarlet and prevents him from acting so you can take time to recover. You should use this move at the top of your turn so you have a chance to try again if it doesn’t work.
  • Use Vi’s Hurricane Toss skill. This is a powerful multi-hit attack that ignores Defense, making it very effective against Scarlet. The only drawback is that it costs 5 TP, so keep that in mind.
  • Use Kabbu’s Heavy Strike skill. This is a single-target physical attack that can deal heavy damage to Scarlet, especially if he’s frozen. It’s also cheap to use, at only 3 TP.

Which Medals to Use for Monsieur Scarlett

One of the mechanics that Bug Fables employs is allowing you to change your medal loadout if you lose a battle. The right combination of medals can give you just the edge you need.

  • HP Plus: This medal boosts the HP of the equipped character by 2 points. The more health your characters have, the more of Scarlet’s punishment you can take.
  • TP Plus: This medal raises the team’s TP by 3 points. The more TP you have, the more skills you can use before you need to recover.
  • Status Booster: Improves the chances of status-causing attacks to successfully cause those status effects. Give this to Leif to improve their chances of freezing Scarlet.
  • Poison Needles: Equipping this medal gives all of Vi’s needle attacks a chance to poison the enemy. This is handy for dealing extra damage to Scarlet.
  • Back Support: A rare medal that boosts the Defense of whichever character is in the back row. It’ll give you that extra boost of resistance against Scarlet’s stronger attacks.
