Kerbal’s Space Program Creator Announces Balsa Flight Sim

The mind behind hit indie title Kerbal Space Program has announced Balsa Model Flight Simulator, a new flight simulator game that will allow players to create their own aircraft. Lead developer Felipe Falanghe announced the project during Gamescom's Future Game Show, giving us a look at some of the gameplay.

Falanghe explains that in Balsa Model Flight Simulator players will be able to design and build your own aircraft in a similar way to how players could build rockets in Kerbal Space Program. You'll then be able to use your aircraft in missions, to battle with other pilots, and even show them off in the game's online multiplayer.

Balsa Model Flight Simulator doesn't have a release date just yet, but will release in Steam Early Access later this year. However, Falanghe also announces that the game's open beta starts today, and that those interested can log in to Steam right now and try out the game via Steam's new Play Test feature. Falanghe explains that he's doing this in an attempt to build up a healthy community before the game launches.

A trip to the game's Steam page reveals that Falanghe has big plans for the game, including the addition of helicopters, cars, and even rockets when the game's full version finally launches. Also promised is additional game modes for single-player and multiplayer, more pilot customization options, and several new maps.

If you're interested in Balsa Model Flight Simulator, make sure you go and wishlist the game on Steam to keep up to date on development. You can also join the game's official Discord channel via the game's Steam page as well if you want to be part of Falanghe's planned community.

We also got a whole bunch of other exciting announcements from the Future Game Show, including a release window for the creature-collecting, open-world Adventure game DokeV, a release date for the Minecraft-esque fishing RPG Moonglow Bay, a new gameplay trailer for a new indie multiplayer soulslike game called Project Relic, and the announcement that CatDog and April O'Neil will be joining the rest of the Nick crew in Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl.
