The new trailer showcased some new gameplay and outlined some of the features, including a focus on the skill-based 3v3 gameplay and character roster. One key moment in the trailer for fans of the series is the reveal that Ash will be returning as a playable fighter.

The final roster for the game will total 39 fighters overall and will be made up of new and old characters. If you've never played an entry in the King of Fighters series before, they are 3v3 fighters from SNK that focus on skill-based fighting. This fifteenth entry in the series is the first game released since 2016's King of Fighters 14.

King of Fighters 15 was previously supposed to be released in 2021, but was delayed due to development complications related to Covid-19. SNK said, "Due to rising cases of COVID-19 within Japan, the development timeline for KOF XV was adjusted, with the release window changing from 2021 to Q1 2022. We apologize and thank you for your understanding and patience."
