This is quite a large area and can initially be a bit confusing, but we're breaking it all down step-by-step in the guide below, so you'll have no problem getting through.

Lanayru Mine Walkthrough – Zelda: Skyward Sword

You'll drop down into the desert atop a big podium. Climb down and start heading directly into the mine, defeating any enemies you come across. Your first task will be to push broken-down minecarts down a track, dropping it off a ledge, and then pulling it further so you can use it as a platform and climb the ledge blocking your path. Remember to refill your Bomb Bag whenever possible.

In the next large chamber, you'll see a stone in the centre. This is a Timeshift Stone, and will be used heavily throughout the Lanayru portions of the game. Strike the Timeshift Stone with your sword, or even a Slingshot will work, and it will emit a field of, erm, timeshift energy, I guess. Basically, the nearby area becomes revitalised – tiny robot creatures spring to life, the desert floor turns to lush greenery, it's beautiful. But most importantly, the minecarts, tracks, and doors work again.

There's a minecart near where you entered the chamber, just outside of the time field, and you can drag it back into range. Once inside it'll spring to life, and you can climb inside it to take a free ride, and get through the various doors, which are other inaccessible.

Once in the next room you'll find bombs, which you can use to blow up the nearby rocks, revealing a timeshift stone. Strike it to spring this room to life. There's a large stone door in the room too, with an etching holding a cup. Throw a bomb into the cup to blow the door, bringing it down, and opening up the path forward.

This next room will have quicksand on the floor – you'll sink inside if you run out of stamina while standing in it. There are also more stone doors – throwing bombs in their cups will bring them down, making platforms to stand on in the sand. Don't try to run across the sand without a full stamina gauge – for your own sake.

Once across the narrow sand room, you'll find yourself in a much larger sand room. You'll need to run to small islands of solid land, some of which feature a stamina fruit to keep you going. If you need to stop the enemies from interrupting you, stun them with your Slingshot. Get across to the land with a ramp leading out the area.

Once up the ramp, you'll notice a long sandy pathway to your left. You can't run across this, but you can bowl your bombs. Roll a bomb all the way to the end to uncover a timeshift stone, and then roll another to activate the stone. This will turn the sandy path into lush grass you can walk across, and you'll be able to access the chest from the previous room – but even better, you'll be able to use the minecart at the bottom of the ramp, leading you out of Lanayru Mine.

Just drag the minecart into the range of the timeshift stone, just as before. This will lead you to Lanayru Desert.
