As you pass through the home of Hades between each of your escape attempts from the Underworld, you will meet a variety of NPCs, upgrade your abilities, visit shops, and you can even learn to play a mystical instrument. Most of these actions just require solid repetition, but they're well worth undertaking.
In this guide we'll be outlining everything you need to know in order to learn to play the Lyre. If you've ever played an instrument – like, in real like – you'll know it's pretty hard to get a nice sound out of one when you first start out.

But just like anything, practice – and a little help from your friends – makes perfect. Follow the steps we outline below, and you can quickly turn Zagreus into a competent Lyre player that will make him the envy of the Underworld – and will also complete The Gift of Song prophecy from the Fated List of Minor Prophecies.
Learning To Play The Lyre – Hades
If you look through the Fated List of Minor Prophecies, you'll notice the prophecy called The Gift of Song. This prophecy has the following description:
The song of the god of the dead shall someday learn to perform music halfway decently through the teachings of a solemn master of the art.
A bit mysterious, but now we're going to outline everything you need to do to learn how to play. First, you need the Lyre itself, which will be placed at the foot of your bed in Zagreus' room.
In order to unlock it you will need to have multiple conversations with Orpheus, and you should donate to him at least one Nectar. Once that is complete, you can either slay the Hydra for the first time, or wait until you hear Orpheus sing. Talk to him once again, and the Lyre will become available in the Broker's inventory for one Diamond.
Now that you have the Lyre, it's time to learn how to play. Go up to it in your room and strum it a few times – do this every single time you pass through, the more the better.
In total, you will need to strum the Lyre 210 times in order to become a master musician – a tall order, I know. This requires returning to it often, and regularly checking in with Orpheus, who will give you abbreviated lessons in how to play.
Once you've played enough, and regularly reported to Orpheus, you will eventually be able to play – at least somewhat. This should complete The Gift of Song prophecy – congratulations!
