Limited Run Games Bringing Sega’s Astro City Mini To The US

This is a pleasant surprise. Limited Run Games announced that it will be bringing Sega’s Astro City Mini arcade machine to the US, with pre-orders starting this Friday. The console is not unlike many of the other retro consoles that have been released in recent years, including Nintendo’s own NES and SNES Mini systems. The Astro City Mini is a reproduction of the Japanese arcade machines that bear the same name.

Big things really do come in small packages. SEGA’s Astro City Mini Arcade is opening for pre-order on March 26th! It comes packed with 36 games and available add-ons like the adorable Style Kit and Control Pad. https://t.co/ojMuqis4Ty pic.twitter.com/p8oztJU7Ce

There are 37 different titles that can be experienced, which you can review in the below list:

  • Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars (with Stella)
  • Alien Storm
  • Alien Syndrome
  • Altered Beast
  • Arabian Fight
  • Bonanza Bros.
  • Columns
  • Columns II
  • Cotton
  • Crack Down
  • Cyber Police ESWAT
  • Dark Edge
  • Dottori Kun (Dot Race)
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Flicky
  • Gain Ground
  • Golden Axe
  • Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder
  • My Hero
  • Puyo Puyo
  • Puyo Puyo 2
  • Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R
  • Puzzle & Action: Tant-R
  • Rad Mobile
  • Quartet 2
  • Scramble Spirits
  • Sega Ninja
  • Shadow Dancer
  • Shinobi
  • Sonic Boom
  • Space Harrier
  • Stack Columns
  • Thunder Force AC
  • Virtua Fighter
  • Wonder Boy
  • Wonder Boy in Monster Land
  • Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair

While the games can all be played natively on the Astro City Mini’s display and with its small arcade stick and buttons, it is also possible to connect to an external screen via HDMI. What’s more, LRG will be bringing a Style Kit and Gamepad along for the ride (sold separately), which you can preview here:

The Style Kit is particularly interesting, as it provides a completely perfunctory and, thus, utterly necessary miniature arcade stool. There’s also a riser that can be put beneath an Astro City Mini, which is arguably the bigger draw… maybe. So, this all sounds wonderful, but as is the case when it comes to things like this, there’s a catch: the English-packaged version of Astro City Mini is limited to 3,500 units. A shame, but at least it’s coming to the US in some form. The Sega Astro City Mini was originally released for the Japanese market back in late 2020, but it wasn’t clear if it would ever launch outside of that region. Thankfully, LRG and Sega are giving at least 3,500 fans a shot to enjoy this chunk of retro goodness!
