Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty turns 20 years old this year, after being released on the PlayStation in 2001. A novel adaption of the game written by Raymond Benson was released in 2009. While a series like Metal Gear Solid seems like a tricky one to adapt, a snippet shared on Reddit shows that the novel does a great job in covering even the more out-there and humorous aspects of the series.
Over the years, the Metal Gear Solid series has seen a few novel adaptions in its time. Metal Gear Solid 1 and Sons of Liberty were published under the same author, with the fourth game getting one by a different author, and MGS3 going missing. For those interested in reading, Raymond Benson is known for accurately capturing just what makes the Metal Gear Solid games what they are down to the comic relief moments that the franchise is known for.

Reddit user MadeIndescribable shared a snippet of Metal Gear Solid 2's novel, describing Solid Snake sneaking up and shooting a Russian soldier before shoving him into a locker, noticing how there's a poster of a girl in a bikini inside. Before moving on, Snake thinks about pranking Otacon and snaps a picture. Snake even mutters "good" to himself afterward, which has some fans in the comments laughing as they can hear Snake's voice in their heads when reading.
While this may seem like just a goofy detail to add life and bring out the character's personalities more in the book, players may notice that it's actually from the game itself. The locker room and the bikini poster are in Metal Gear Solid 2, where if fans put themselves in the locker and move a certain way, they can get trophies such as "Kissing Booth" and even "Snake Beater." Calling Otacon while looking at the poster also leads to a side conversation where he scolds Snake for forgetting the mission, meaning Snake's prank works.
Scenes like this being included in MGS's novel adaptions are great for the overall outlook for the series, which has other comedic moments that add to its charm. The series is known for these moments, like getting a humorous game over with a slap for not treating a girl right on a date in Peace Walker.
For fans still missing Snake and his adventures, the novels are a great way to enjoy what's there in a new way, despite the series' state being confusing with the new Metal Gear Solid title rumors currently. While sadly only 3 books are available in English, with Phantom Pain's being Japanese only, players are sure to enjoy them as a way to jump back into Metal Gear Solid for the new title to be revealed, if it truly does happen.
