During the Capcom ransomware leaks, it was claimed the game would have a demo or demos launched between January and March 2021. A demo was officially announced to launch in January. The files also allege the game would head to Windows PC in October 2021.

As previously reported, the game will be the first mainline Monster Hunter title since the successful Monster Hunter World. Players return to the original style of gameplay, this time taking place in an eastern-style region, along with new mechanics, and monsters inspired by Japanese mythology.
