You may be familiar with many of the hot weather monsties that often take center stage in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Everybody loves good a fire-breather like Rathalos, but there are many monsties found in the snowy regions of the game who are just as powerful and deserve the same love.

These monsties mostly match where they come from by using ice power, but not all do, so some of what you learn might surprise you. Also, be prepared to know that not all of them have fluffy fur. These are the best cold weather monsties to add to your rider team in the game.
Khezu
There's no denying that Khezu is one of the strangest (and possibly most hideous) designs Capcom has come up with. Its high-pitched banshee scream rivals that of most other monsties. However, if you can manage to stomach the weird appearance, Khezu's electric-based attacks are really invaluable.
There are so many strong monsties weak to thunder that its power will come in handy against. This includes Rathalos, Mizutsune, and Grimclaw Tigrex.
Legiana
A Legiana is a majestic hawk-like wyvern found in the cold regions of Loloska. It's fast and will swoop enemies in the blink of an eye with the cold wind it emits from its body with speed-based abilities. As monsties with ice-based attacks, Legianas are good choices to bring to fight the powerful Diablos monsties, who are weak to subzero breath.
However, you won't encounter them until a little bit into the game as a boss during part of the main story. You'll have to beat the boss version first for its egg to spawn in other places. It's recommended to bring a monstie with a thunder-based power that hits hard in order to counter the Legiana's speed.
Zamtrios
If you miss Tetranodon from Monster Hunter Rise, then Zamtrios has a pretty similar gig. These amphibious shark-like creatures use ice on their legs to get around and they fill their bodies with water like balloons to attack. Like some other monsties, Zamtrios have a niche specialty where the base type of their attacks changes depending on whether they are inflated or not.

When filled up, their moves are speed-based, and when covered in ice, they are technical-based. This double whammy alone makes them worth raising. Zamtrios can also of course swiftly swim through the water with you on their back.
Gammoth
Want to pretend to be Hannibal crossing the mountains with elephants to fight the oppressive Roman Empire? Then train up the ever-powerful Gammoth in the postgame setting.
Gammoth makes a difficult boss, but its elements as a monstie make the challenge absolutely worth it. For the best results in fighting it, bring a monstie with speed-based attacks to counter its power moves. This pillar of strength will have little issue crushing anything in its path and proudly carry you through the snowy banks of Loloska. They are very sturdy monsties that can handle just about any terrain.
Nerscylla
Something notable about the Monster Hunter Stories games is that even the monsties who were horrifying in the mainline games have now been dulled down to be more appealing. The spidery Nerscylla is one of these.
She may not be the cutest monstie, but this queen of the web has a great ivy climbing skill that's really useful. Her poison technical moves will be very useful against enemies as well. She moves quickly with speed-based abilities, so when fighting her make sure to bring a fire-based monstie that hits hard.
Tobi-Kadachi
Introduced back in Monster Hunter World, this toothy noodle beast known as Tobi-Kadachi runs fast and comes with a really useful jumping skill. That's not all of their power though. One might assume by looking at this monstie that its moves would be ice-based, especially considering it lives in Loloska.

However, like Khezu, Tobi-Kadachi fries the opponents with its electric-based powers. Khezu can be a pretty tough fight at first, so if you don't feel ready for that but need a thunder-based monstie that's slightly more approachable as far as battling goes, Tobi-Kadachi is a great option.
Kecha Wacha
Is it a fox? Is it a monkey? Is it a lemur? No one knows for sure when it comes to this tree climber. Kecha Wacha looks like something you're more apt to find in a tropical jungle than a snowy place, yet somehow they thrive in Loloska.
Their big ears and long nose are so cute that it's easy to forget that it's still a three-star monstie who will definitely give newcomers a run for their money. They are weak to fire, so avoid bringing them to battles with monsties that carry that element.
Popo
Since you can't get Gammoth until the endgame, another good choice for a similar powerhouse is the Popo. These herbivores can be found grazing in herds in Loloska and won't hesitate to attack larger monsters they deem a threat. Introduced to the franchise in Monster Hunter 2, Popo are a classic staple of the games. Popo are worth raising because they have the ability to help you find plants easier.
Lagombi
If you ever wondered how something as chonky as Lagombi slides around so smoothly, it's because they have a shell on their underbelly that allows them to smoothly get around on the ice.

That shell also reduces friction. Their fluffy and insulting body fat allows them to withstand the cold winds of Loloska. They are sturdy tanky beasts with good defense who can keep you alive as a new to medium experienced player. Their ice-based attacks weaken monsties with both the thunder and dragon element.
Velkhana
Velkhana is the elder dragon whose egg you will be able to find in the rare egg dens in the postgame setting in Loloska. Beautiful, powerful, and majestic, there aren't many with power that tops this master of ice.
It's one of, if not the, strongest boss in the game so definitely make sure you are fully prepared before going head to head with it. The best way to damage it is to use blunt attacks on the head, slashes on the body, and piercing ones on the tail. With its unmatched power, this dragon will be an excellent addition to your roster.
