Mortal Kombat Movie Delayed to April 16, 2021

Warner Bros. Pictures have announced the new Mortal Kombat (2021) live action movie premiere date has been delayed.

While originally slated March 5th, 2021, a tweet from the film’s official Twitter account confirms the film will now premiere on April 16th. Along with cinemas, the film will also be available via streaming service HBO Max.

This is true for all of Warner Bros. movies in 2021, launching in cinemas in the same time as HBO Max. The decision has been met with concern and criticism by actors, directors, and guilds [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. Nonetheless, a survey by consulting firm Deloitte reportedly discovered that just over half of US film goers surveyed felt uncomfortable going to the cinema for the next six months.

The reason for this, not to mention the delay of the film and the simultaneous streaming release, is no doubt caused by the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Mortal Kombat (2021) began filming this year in Australia, no doubt being hindered by the quarantine orders.
