New Pokemon Snap’s First Major Update Is Now Live

New Pokemon Snap's first major update is now live, and it brings more with it than just the new areas and Pokemon promised in its trailer.

The Pokemon Company surprised us all last week by dropping a trailer for New Pokemon Snap's first major update. The news came as a surprise as there had been no mention of Pokemon Snap getting any post-game content whatsoever. The update, which is already live, adds three new areas to the Lental Region as well as 20 new Pokemon.

New areas and an expanded Photodex aren't the only things that have been added to Pokemon Snap this week. As first discovered by Serebii, the patch also brings with it a few tweaks that will make the game easier to play. Now, once you have completed a level, you will be able to select the research level first if you want to jump right back in. You previously had to exit the level and go back in to be able to do that.

You can now also go directly back to camp without having any photos assessed. Not every outing is a successful one, and sometimes you have nothing you want to show Professor Mirror. However, the prof insisted on you displaying something, even if doing so was a waste of everyone's time. That is no longer the case and you will be able to skip that tedious step and head straight back to camp.

The photo editors among you will now be able to save your masterpieces directly to your Switch, and any pics you snap that meet a LenTalk mission's requirements will now be flagged as such prior to assessment. The areas and levels and the main event of this update though, of course, and some of you may have already traversed the new parts of the Lental Region prior to reading this.

The unannounced update and addition of new Pokemon is an exciting prospect for Snap fans. Since the game only includes a fraction of the full Pokedex, and for good reason, the hope was that more Pokemon would be added at a later date. Fingers crossed there are more updates on the horizon, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet by Nintendo nor The Pokemon Company.
