Five years may have passed since the controversial release of No Man's Sky, but after over a dozen new updates, Hello Games has transformed the game into something almost unrecognizable compared to what was released in 2016. To show how far the game has come in such a large amount of time, Hello Games founder Sean Murray has shared a short trailer celebrating the game's fifth anniversary, full of clips from each update, and even some fan reactions.

Those who stick around until the end of the video will also be able to see a very short teaser for No Man's Sky's next update. Titled "Frontiers", Hello Games doesn't give any hints as to what this new update might contain, apart from the three crescent moons seen in the letters in the title. Unfortunately, there's no release date for the update, but the video states it's "coming soon", so we'll likely see it drop before the end of the year.
In a PlayStation blog post, Murray goes a little bit further into what fans can expect from this new update, but still leaves things very vague and mysterious:
"In some ways it is just another update, but in other ways it’s a missing piece of the sci-fi fantasy that we’ve always wanted to add, and very fitting for our fifth anniversary," explains Murray. "There is still a lot we want to try, so much we are still excited for."
Just like with all of No Man's Sky's other updates, players will be able to download the update for free on launch. The Frontiers update will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and is compatible with VR systems such as PlayStation VR, Oculus, and Steam VR.
As for what Hello Games has in store for further in the future, it seems like a new, highly ambitious title is currently being worked on. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, Hello Game's development team is currently split in two, with one half working on a mystery game that is said to be just as ambitious as No Man's Sky. Hopefully they get the launch right with this one.
