Official Sources Hint at a Possible Resident Evil 4 Remake

Along with Simpsons: Hit and Run, Resident Evil 4 is one of those games that the fan base seems most interested in a seeing a remake of. There have been talks about it for some time now, but, despite it being one of the most celebrated in the whole series, there is no certainty about whether a reimagining of RE4 will even happen. That hasn't stopped the hype train from trundling along, and now it looks as though that fire is only going to be stoked further thanks to a recent social media post.

In a tweet uploaded earlier today, the official Resident Evil account seems to have dropped a hint about a possible remake of the fourth game. There is nothing solid in the post, so these are only speculations at this point, but the message does read "4. Itchy. Tasty" with nothing else added to it. The rest has seemingly been left up to the surrounding community to decipher.

For those who are not too familiar with the Resident Evil universe, this tweet is a reference to the first game. Specifically, it is almost a direct quote from the Keeper's Diarywhich also has the message "Itchy. Tasty." written inside. While the original entry relates to the eventual incoherent ramblings of the diarist who has become infected, the fact that the tweet from the RE account has the number four written at the start could hint at this being related to a possible Resident Evil 4 remake. Why it would reference something from the first game in order to give clues about the fourth is not really known, but it's definitely got the attention of the fan base.

It's hardly surprising that the fans want to see a remake of the 2005 classic. In lists, Resident Evil 4 is consistently ranked as one of the best in the series, thanks in part to its change in gameplay mechanics, and its slight focus on more action and fewer puzzles, yet still retaining all the elements that make it a memorable RE game.

At this stage, the tweet is simply a tease. It's entirely possible that a remake is happening and this is how it's being hinted at, especially given that mention of an RE4 remake was absent from this year's E3. The reality seems to be that fans want this, and there is a real opportunity to reimagine this sixteen-year-old title for a more up-to-date gaming era. It worked for Resident Evil 2, after all.

A Resident Evil 4 Remake is rumored to be in development.
