Hundreds of New Titles Coming to a New PlayStation Subscription Service
“Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services.” Reads a very special update on the official PlayStation blog. “This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally.”
So, PlayStation Plus is getting a big overhaul, huh? Let’s just cut to the chase: we all know why you’re here. This new system will consist of three new membership tiers:
‘PlayStation Plus Essential’ is the lowest tier, and where you’ll end up if you don’t want to upgrade. Not much to report, here, honestly. The post went out of its way to say that this package’s features and price tag was mirroring the existing PlayStation Plus model.
‘PlayStation Plus Extra’ is the first of two upgrades you can pick up from here. It comes with a 5$ USD per month price jump, but adds in 400+ new titles from their “Extra” tier. As of now, we don’t know what games are included there, but Sony claims that they’ll include “blockbuster hits”.
‘PlayStation Plus Premium’ throws another 340+ games on top of the ‘Extra’ tier. These games will include cloud streaming for many PlayStation 3 titles, as well as “streaming and download options” for even more PlayStation 2 and PSP titles. Games can be streamed to a PS4, PS5 or a PC. Finally, it’ll also include “try before you buy”, limited time game trials. The price hike here sits at 8$ USD per month above the base price.
More options is always something to enjoy, even if only a limited selection of people will consider upgrading things. Sony also mentioned that they’d be offering more info as we inch closer to release. It’s likely that most will hold their judgement until then, but for now, what you see is what you get.
