Pokemon Wonder Opening In Japan July 17

A nature-based theme park called Pokemon Wonder is opening in Japan later this month. Its limited run will come to an end in April of next year.

The Pokemon Company is cramming absolutely everything it can into this milestone anniversary year for the franchise. New games, reprinted trading cards, and even a Pokemon song performed by Katy Perry. You can now add a theme park to that list, and it opens less than two weeks from today. No, this isn't something on the same scale as Super Nintendo World, but the aptly named Pokemon Wonder still sounds pretty cool.

Pokemon Wonder is described as a nature theme park and it will open to the public in Tokyo, Japan later this month. According to PocketGamer.biz, visiting trainers will be tasked with exploring 48,000 square feet of relatively untouched woodland in search of hidden Pokemon.

The area has been handcrafted using natural materials, the process of which you can check out in the Pokemon Wonder trailer above. It ends on a shot of a tiny handmade Metapod, which we're assuming trainers will need to be on the lookout for as they make their way around the park. There will be two trails, and traversing them will take roughly 90 minutes. Advice and clues regarding what you will need to be on the lookout for will be provided in the form of research papers. You can check out more of the Pokemon that will be featured and how they will be hidden via the park's official press release.

Pokemon Wonder is the brainchild of Keiichi Motoyama and Ryogo Matsumaru. Motoyama helped create Pokemon Go's global launch trailer, while Matsumaru is debuting in the Pokemon world via this project. He does have expertise in injecting mystery into different forms of media though, perfect experience for Pokemon Wonder. Harking back to Pokemon Go, Pokemon Wonder feels like the perfect setting for some sort of crossover event. Finding virtual Pokemon as well as handmade ones inside the park would double the fun on offer.

The bad news is Pokemon Wonder won't be something that remains in place indefinitely. The park will open on July 17, 2021, and close again on April 3, 2022. No word on what will happen to the park after that, or if it will be recreated in other parts of the world outside of Japan.
