The issue between the creators of indie game Hypnospace Outlaw and PUBG Mobile over the likeness of the latter's new skin appears to have been resolved.
Something in one game unintentionally looking like it was lifted from another happens from time to time. However, there are occasions when the similarities are too stark to ignore. That happened this week when PUBG Mobile revealed its Hypnospace Diva skin. The name and its color scheme appeared to be a direct reference to indie game, Hypnospace Outlaw.
Hypnospace Outlaw's creator Jay Tholen took to Twitter to call out PUBG Mobile's devs, stating that he didn't want people to see the skin and think it was part of an official crossover. Despite also admitting legal action against a company as big as Tencent would likely be fruitless, Tholen has already received a response from the developers of PUBG Mobile, and it's good news.

Tholen took to Twitter to share the news that PUBG Mobile's team had been in touch and that the skin will be renamed. He then shared the message he received directly from PUBG Mobile's official Twitter account. “We want you to know that we do care and want to explain what happened and to let you know that we are renaming the skin," it reads.
The statement explains that when translated from Mandarin, the name of the new skin means Golden Diva. Even though it was designed without Hypnospace Outlaw in mind, its color scheme and visuals reminded someone on PUBG Mobile's localization team of Hypnospace Outlaw, and that's how it wound up with the name Hypnospace Diva. Those whose job it is to approve the name change were not aware of the indie game, hence how this managed to slip through the cracks.
Tholen appears to be happy with the decision that has been reached, and even though the new skin's look might remind people of Hypnospace Outlaw's aesthetic, it will not share any similarities in name. The new name for the Hypnspace Diva is yet to be revealed. Tholen also added that he hopes no one lost their job over this, as the statement reads as if one person involved in the process of naming the skin was indeed inspired by Hypnospace Outlaw.
