Scorn Is Still Releasing In 2021

It’s been a while since fans last heard anything of Scorn, a slow-burn shooter set within an organic alien environment that is clearly heavily inspired by Hans Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński's works. Despite almost a year of silence, Scorn is still on track to arrive this Fall, it seems.

Developer Ebb Software showed Scorn gameplay last October, and there have been little to no updates from the project ever since. In fact, the creators have remained completely silent on social media for months. Many fans have given up their hopes to see the game in 2021, but last night's Gamescom show gave us a few grains of information that hint there is still a chance.

A Game Pass advert was shown during Gamescom 2021's Opening Night Live event, briefly showing the Scorn logo with a message saying “Fall 2021.” While this is still a bit vague, the developers have also broken the silence on Twitter. Responding to fans, Ebb Software confirmed the title is definitely not cancelled, and that the studio will share additional details of the project “soon enough.”

Scorn is an atmospheric and unsettling first-person horror adventure, which puts the players into a claustrophobic underworld full of misshapen organic forms and unnamed fluids. The world of Scorn is a labyrinth of interconnected spaces, tangled puzzles, and environmental storytelling. There are some visual parallels to H.R. Giger’s works, who created the pillars for the iconic Alien universe. Here’s the last gameplay footage to show you the vibe it's going for:

Scorn initially was planned for a 2017 release, before the team decided to severely expand on the scale of the project. In addition, the creators dropped the idea to release the game on last-gen and focused on current-gen versions only. Therefore, the release window for Scorn has shifted more than once over the last few years. Back in October, the team indicated the title will arrive this Fall, yet given the circumstances, it’ll be no surprise if the game faces another delay.
