Shang-Chi Kicks Butt On A Bus In New Clip

In several trailers of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, clips of Simu Liu’s titular character fighting it out on a bus are visible. While it seemed like an epic showdown, fans were never able to see the full extent of Shang-Chi's fighting abilities, until now. Marvel has released exclusive footage from the bus scene where Shang-Chi is seen kicking some goon butt.

Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has previously confirmed that the upcoming Marvel Studios film features several fight scenes that have been inspired by several Jackie Chan films and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The film brought in choreographers from mainland China to create “wuxia-style fight scenes.” Fans are expecting more martial arts when it comes to the fight sequences in Shang-Chi, and the newly released clip by Marvel does not disappoint.

The clip begins with some goons asking Shang-Chi to return a pendant. While the character tells them he is looking for no trouble, his anger takes over when one of the bad guys pushes his best friend Katy, portrayed by Awkwafina. This is when he unleashes his strength and beats the thugs in an action-packed sequence. It is refreshing to see a whole new fight style being incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Liu has previously stated that Shang-Chi will feature the MCU’s best action, and if this scene is anything to go by, fans have a lot to look forward to.

It’s obvious that this isn’t the entire bus sequence, as Marvel is still holding the rest of the scene close to its chest. In the previously released Shang-Chi trailers, fans must have noticed Florian Munteanu’s Razor Fist appearing on the bus and fighting against Shang-Chi. He even manages to “cut the bus into half,” with Katy exclaiming her shock over a guy with a “literal machete for a hand.”

One interesting thing in the clip that fans may have caught on to is a tiny MCU crossover. Actor Zach Cherry makes a cameo in the scene as the guy live-streaming the action occurring on the bus. Referring to himself as Clev, Cherry comments on the fight and wants to grade Shang-Chi's martial arts based on his own training when he was a child.

Cherry made a similar appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming as a vendor asking Spider-Man to “do a flip.” The Easter egg is being appreciated by Marvel fans on social media and now they’re asking for more Shang-Chi footage before the film’s official premiere.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premieres in theaters on September 3, 2021.
