Quick Links

We're making our way through the entirety of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, since it is the season to celebrate this excellent game. This might be one of the most linear Zelda games out there, but that certainly doesn't mean it's lacking in any way whatsoever.

This game is story-heavy, and there are loads of puzzles and mysteries to dive into in order to fully explore the ancient land of Hyrule. In this guide we're going to be breaking down how you can find the Water Dragon in Faron Woods. You'll need to complete Farore's Silent Realm and accomplish a few tasks before you can find the Water Dragon, but we'll break down everything you need to know in the guide below.

Completing Farore's Silent Real, Tears Of Farore Locations – Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

We'll be returning to Faron Woods in order to find the Water Dragon, and our first order of business is to complete Farore's Silent Realm. You can enter this realm by moving to the Great Tree, just in front of the stone building in the main woods area – you can use Dowsing to find the location if you're struggling. It'll be surrounded by Blessed Butterflies. Once you arrive, use the Goddess Harp to activate the realm, then thrust your sword into the ground to enter it.

Once you enter the Silent Realm, you'll be give the Spirit Vessel, a plant which will be familiar to Twilight Princess players. You need to fill it with Tears of Farore, which will be littered around the nearby woods area – you will not need to got through any loading doors, so don't exit the area. There are 15 tears in total.

But watch out – Guardians will patrol the area, and they'll attack you if they see you, and you will fail the trial after just a single hit, causing you to begin from the start. You will also need to avoid touching water, as it will summon Guardians. Luckily, unless you either get caught by those patrolling, you should be able to avoid them, as picking up a Tear of Farore will give you 90 seconds of invisibility to Guardians, allowing you to explore in relative safety. Tears of Farore will also glow as if they've been marked with a beacon for 30 seconds once you collect a Light Fruit, which are located everywhere, this makes Tears of Farore easy to find.

One last note, Silent Realms are also the only place in the game you can find Dusk Relics, which are necessary for multiple item upgrades, so make sure to pick them up when you see them on the ground.

Once the trial is over, you'll be gifted the Water Dragon's Scale, which will allow you to swim underwater and perform a spin attack. It's a good technique, and will allow us to find the location of the Water Dragon.

Climbing The Great Tree In Faron Woods – Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

You should have already seen the underwater entrance at the base of the Great Tree – it'll be in the pool of water just behind where you began the trial. You can swim down into the Great Tree, through the waterway, and emerge inside the tree. You can use the Slingshot and Gust Bellows to clear out the explosive puffer fish, and to make the rope platforms swing, allowing you to jump over the gap.

Now you'll be on the side of the tree, and must climb the platforms along the side. When climbing the vines further up, be sure to either take out the monsters with your Slingshot first, or just be really careful, I guess. In the next hole in the tree you'll face off against a large enemy with a shield – you can cut the shield with your sword to make the enemy vulnerable, and parry the attacks with your shield to make short work of its attacks. Just don't get crushed by it once it dies and collapses. Oh, and don't fall off, either.

Beat the enemies as you continue to climb, and after you climb some more vines you'll find yourself at the top of the Great Tree – and in the presence of an old Kikwi sitting on a branch, sleeping. Time to say hello. Use the Slingshot to wake up Yerbal, the old Kikwi Hermit. This creature is older than even the Elder Kikwi, and is invisible to most of them. Yerbal will tell you about Farore's Flame, which you need to find. There's a gate with Farore's symbol on near where you originally met the Elder Kikwi, to the South of Faron Woods. Head there.

Outside of the gate, hold your sword up to perform a Skyward Strike, and then you'll be made to "draw" on the wall to complete Farore's symbol – it's missing a circle on the inside. Complete it, and it'll open up, allowing you to dive into Lake Floria.

Finding The Water Dragon In Lake Floria and Faron Woods – Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Right, now we've gotten the mystical door open, and we can head on through. Once you get to the end of the path dive into Lake Floria below, and we'll head towards the Water Dragon. The water down here moves fast, so you'll be quickly dragged down the river and into a secret cave, where you'll meet a unique seahorse-jellyfish hybrid. This creature is a member of the Parella race, and it will lead you to the Water Dragon – at first unwillingly. Follow it, and use the Spin Attack to break through the wooden boards it hides behind. After this it will become more helpful, and lead you in the correct direction.

In the next room there are several bombable walls, but you won't have any bombs to use. You need to use your Spin Attack to collide with the puffer fish, and they'll blow the walls. The one you need to progress is opposite where you entered the room, but there's more to find, if you wish to look around.

In the next room you need to clear a gate which is above the surface of the water – you can angle your Spin Attack up, and this will allow you to breach out of the water like a dolphin. Do this again in the next area to follow the Parella. You'll have to jump another gate to get into the next area, where you'll come up against a powerful fish enemy. This one is vicious, but you just need to Spin Attack at its forehead, which will damage it. Another Spin Attack while it's dazed will finish the job. Keep following the Parella, and it will open up the door into the next chamber. Finally you'll meet the Water Dragon – though she's not in good shape.

Getting Sacred Water To Heal The Water Dragon Of Lake Floria – Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

The Water Dragon has been attacked by Girahim and is damaged, attempting to heal in a mystical bath. She needs help, and will gift you with the ability to use your Dowsing the find the Sacred Water. Luckily, we already know where it is, so we can make this quick – or as quick as possible. The Sacred Water is located inside Skyview Temple, so you will need to revisit this temple in Faron Woods and discover that things have changed here.

As you enter the temple you'll find new enemies and a Mogma, so things are different. Also the door in the main chamber has been locked, and you'll need a Small Key to open it. The Mogma had the Small Key, but misplaced it. Let's seek it out.

Behind where you met the Mogma there will be a shortcut into the main chamber – if you opened it last time you came through, that is. If not, go down the stairs and take the long way around. In the main chamber, follow the centre path and take the door on the right. You'll remember there was a crawlspace on the floor here, and you can actually swim through it when you dive underwater. Once you breach, you'll notice vines to climb, and the Small Key will be buried in some soft dirt just up here. You can now open up the locked door in the main chamber easily.

You can go straight through this room and enter the next chamber directly opposite where you entered. Cross the rope bridge, but consider using a Hook Beetle and bomb to take out the enemies first. Go through the big door – Girahim isn't here this time, but there are three Stalfos, skeletal warriors. Take them down by attacking wherever they don't defend, and use bombs to make things easier, as they drop their weapons for a moment.

Once the enemies are down you can enter into the final chamber and dowse for the Sacred Water – it's located inside the second waterfall from the left. Use an Empty Bottle here to fill it up and take it back to the Water Dragon. This will revive the Water Dragon, and she'll open up the path forward into Lake Floria's dungeon, the Ancient Cistern.
