Skyrim Fan Makes Dragon Priest Staff and Staff of Destruction in Real Life

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim continues to inspire its community. Nearly a decade since its release, Skyrim's subreddit is often filled with a mix of shields, swords, and cosplays from the iconic franchise. In the latest display of passion, one Skyrim fan decided to carve two notable staffs, the Dragon Priest Staff and the Staff of Destruction, out of wood.

Skyrim is the fifth main installment in the series and was released to widespread acclaim back in 2011. The open world action role-playing game is host to an enormous amount of weapons and items with which players players can interact. The Dragon Priest Staff is found on the Dragon Priest Nahkriin, while the unenchanted Staff of Destruction can be purchased from the wizard Neloth.

Reddit user t_sekuloski brings to the subreddit two incredibly well carved staffs they created. Players of Skyrim should immediately recognize both as impressive recreations of the in-game versions. Both measure 55 inches tall, are made out of beech wood, and are coated with a walnut color wood stain. That color doesn't perfectly match the in-game model of the Dragon Priest Staff, which appears more metallic, but everything else matches brilliantly. The carver faithfully worked their way up through the design and even included the numerous details that are reminiscent of river eddies. The handles are in the perfect spot as well, and the dragons at the top are impressively accurate.

Though its unlikely that these recreations are as powerful as the versions in-game, these carved staffs from t_sekuloski are just as cool to see. The Redditor has created a number of different wood carvings before these creations, and that history of talent is visible here. The combination of careful carving and staining with these staffs brings out their impressive details.

There are a number of recognizable weapons and items from Skyrim and, though the Dragon Priest Staff is pretty memorable, some players avoided staffs like a disease. Games like Skyrim give players a wide variety of options, and each player has their own preference in combat. None of this takes away from the carved staffs, however, as their designs are spectacular.

Carvings and similar tributes appear often on this subreddit, but these staffs rise above others. Carving with hand tools and wood is a difficult art form and one that has immediately gained the respect of fellow Skyrim fans. Judging from the comments and compliments on the post, it seems likely that the creator will be inspired to continue sharing their carvings in the future.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
