Sony has just patented “Glasses Case and System” with the description “A glasses case for a pair of glasses that in turn includes an integral display, the glasses case including a housing, where the housing encloses a volume in which the glasses are to be stored; and a battery operably coupled to a power access unit from which the glasses, when stored in the housing volume, can draw power; and where the housing of the glasses case includes, on the outer portion thereof, user control inputs laid out in a configuration similar to, and operational as, a conventional handheld videogame controller, and adapted to provide inputs to a computing system driving the integral display of the glasses.”
So basically, these glasses will feature an integral display if they are ever made and a place to store them similar to AirPods and stuff that lets you charge these glasses. The place where you store these glasses, aka “Housing”, looks like a controller and behaves like one.
Here’s an image from the patent:
I think that you will be able to control games via these glasses as well, or they might just behave like a display. This could be some “VR-Like” stuff but a with bit more advanced techniques. I would love to see this patent come to life since I am a huge fan of VR, and this just seems very intriguing I can see myself playing FPS Games using this. The ” a conventional handheld videogame controller, and adapted to provide inputs to a computing system driving the integral display of the glasses.” part just convinces me, even more, that you can play games with these glasses and it’s not just a display because for example the controller sends input to these glasses and I am pretty sure that these could be connected to a PlayStation system or something.
