Spider-Man Fans Debate Peter Parker’s Logic | Game Rant

Marvel's Spider-Man is full of exhilarating moments where players can web-swing through New York City streets and battle colorful supervillains. Peter Parker's life in Marvel's Spider-Man, similar to source material continuities, is based on the constant difficulties of balancing life as a young adult and a life as a superhero.

Logic and the idea of suspended disbelief in fiction is nonchalantly disregarded in Marvel's Spider-Man, let alone any superhero adventure. Players want to be immersed and entertained by the fantasy of Spider-Man's action-packed deeds, and that compels them to isolate most logical or nonsensical explanations from Marvel's Spider-Man and its world. However, there is one story beat in Marvel's Spider-Man that Reddit user dsarche12 could not suspend their disbelief for.

As dsarche12 points out, all of Peter's scientific and technological research in Marvel's Spider-Man is safeguarded onto a single flash drive. Peter's living situation in Marvel's Spider-Man is evidently in shambles and predicated on his unreliable employment status working for Doctor Otto Octavius. When that falls through, Peter ends up losing the flash drive once he is evicted from his apartment and pursues several garbage trucks in the city to retrieve it. The sequence is meant to advocate for the player's empathy toward Peter's misfortune, but dsarche12 had found it unacceptable that a genius such as Peter would be careless enough to stash his data on an individual flash drive.

Marvel's Spider-Man fans have since responded with justifiable explanations that support Peter's logic. A prevailing answer determines that Peter's lack of a more elaborate data storage is because he is a broke 23-year-old in Marvel's Spider-Man. But as other fans refute, Peter has access to Otto's laboratory and has the equipment and resources necessary to produce a prolific amount of gadgets and suits. So it seems strange to fans that storage for his personal data would be so carelessly managed. Of course, he probably hadn't considered that his apartment might be raided and dumped into the trash, either.

LyricalShinobi5 suggests that if Peter separated his research onto more platforms or devices, it would simply be "more data to keep track of." With more research spread through different avenues, the potential for his research being hacked would be greater. One fan, IndianJesus, argues that Peter's carelessness is also attributed to the ridiculous number of backpacks that he leaves "around the city with incriminating evidence" in each. But LyricalShinobi5 makes an interesting point in stating that the backpacks are simply in-game collectibles that "have nothing to do with the story." Therefore, they are irrelevant when considering Peter's logic apart from in-game completion items in Marvel's Spider-Man.

Either way, dsarche12 has openly taken these logical answers into account. Fans debating Marvel's Spider-Man's logic shows that the story has considerable arguments for both sides, and it is exciting to see fans share their admiration for the game.

Marvel's Spider-Man is available now on PS4 and PS5.
