Terraria: How To Get Meteors To Spawn In Terraria 1.4

Quick Links

With the news of Terraria 1.4 is arriving on consoles (soon), we have to tell you that the way meteorites work in 1.4 is not the same way they did in 1.3.

So don't worry if the meteor event isn't spawning on your world after destroying Shadow Orbs or Crimson Hearts. Everything about the event, and the meteorite biome, has been tweaked and changed in Terraria 1.4. Mostly for balance reasons. Here's everything you need to know.

The Meteors And Meteorite Biome In Terraria 1.4

With the introduction of the Journey's End update for Terraria, Meteorites got a whole rework. Here's everything chopped and changed as of 1.4.

  • Meteors no longer have a chance of falling once you've destroyed a Shadow Orb or Crimson Hearts.
  • Meteors will now have a chance to spawn after you defeat either the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu instead.
  • Meteors will not fall on the Dungeon or Jungle Temple. A good fix that one, it was a bit annoying if your Dungeon got destroyed.
  • Meteors can no longer be mined with explosives.
  • You will see an animated meteor falling in the background. This will indicate that a meteor is about to fall, but not exactly where the meteorite biome will appear on your map.

Meteor And Meteorite Guide In Terraria 1.4

These changes actually make a massive difference to your progression and how easy it is to farm meteorites in the early game.

In 1.3, it was possible to rush straight for a Crimson Heart or Shadow Orb right at the start of the game to get meteorite to spawn, and then blow it all up with bombs. You could cheese the first bosses with the very strong Meteor Armor.

Now you won't be able to get meteorite ore until you defeat the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu. This puts Meteor Armor and the Space Gun alongside the Shadow Armor and Crimson Armor, rather than something you can get right away.

Why Is A Meteor Not Spawning On My World?

There could be a few reasons why a meteor event isn't happening, or why you can't find it in your world.

  • The Meteorite Biome will spawn the next night after you've defeated the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu.
  • There is a small chance that another meteorite biome will spawn during a random night after you've beaten the two bosses.
  • Meteors will not fall when you can see them (i.e, not on your screen), they won't fall within 35 tiles of an NPC or a Chest, even a naturally-spawning chest.
  • The center of your world (around the spawn point) will not spawn meteorite biomes.

It is unlikely that the Meteorite Biome has spawned on a Sky Island or at the top of a Living Tree, but it is possible. You can either explore hunting for it, or wait for another meteor to spawn.
