The Witcher: Blood Origin Casts Star Trek Discovery’s Michelle Yeoh

It has just been announced by the official Twitter account that Michelle Yeoh is joining Netflix's The Witcher prequel, Blood Origin, as Scían.

She is described as "the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves, an artist with the blade, on a deadly quest that will change the fate of the Continent."

For context, the Continent is a location in The Witcher's world where the Northern Kingdoms and the Nilfgaardian Empire are found. There's also Zerrikania, Haakland, and the Korath desert. Essentially, it's where the beef of The Witcher games, shows, comics, and books take place. Scían meanwhile is an original character created just for this prequel. It's unclear who her tribe is as of now but it is likely that they too are an original Netflix creation. Nonetheless, while she'll be dotting about in the Continent, she won't bump into Geralt or any other known characters given that the show takes place 1,200 years before the main show.

"Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal 'conjunction of the spheres,' when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one."

It's a six-part limited series from Declan de Barra and Lauren S. Hissrich. It had Jodie Turner-Smith tapped to play the lead, Éile, but she has since left.

Nobody else has been cast in that role just yet, but Jacob Collins-Levy has reportedly been cast as Eredin, the famed villain we've clashed with in the games.

With the announcement that Michelle Yeoh is joining the show, perhaps more news is soon to follow. It could be that, at Netflix and CD Projekt Red's joint WitcherCon, we'll hear all about Blood Origin. For now, though, we'll just have to wait and see.
