Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands new classes, environments and overworld details revealed

A ton of new details have been released about Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, giving us a look at some of the new classes, the fantastical environments, and details of the new overworld and combat gameplay of this Borderlands spin-off.

In the run up to release, Gearbox has created a dedicated Game Guide website where they will periodically add pages and new details of what the game will feature.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will have six character classes to choose from, with two of these being detailed today. The Stabbomancers are assassins focussed on critical hits, able to summon magical whirling blades and disappear into shadows. By contrast, the Brr-Zerkers are frontline warriors, wading into the fight and dishing out brutal melee attacks. Thematically, they’re warriors that come from a frozen mountains, trained to withstand the coldest of winters.

The core gameplay of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is built on three pillars. You have a gun in your right hand, while being able to cast spells from your left – think BioShock in this regard – and with the game trying to keep things high-paced with short cooldowns on most spells. Finally, you have melee combat, with a dedicated melee weapon equipped and ready to use in combat at all times. You can potentially lean into that with some melee-focussed character builds – the Brr-Zerker seems to be designed with that in mind.

Wonderlands will change up the tone of Gearbox’s games quite significantly, with a tongue-in-cheek take on fantasy universe. Here’s four of the environments you’ll visit through the game, with with their own story missions, side quests, enemies, and more:

  • Brighthoof is the crown jewel of Queen Butt Stallion’s bodacious queendom and a beacon of light to all who yearn to bunker or be badass. Though diligently protected by the honored Diamond Guard, the capital city of the Wonderlands has (of-late) been brought low by nefarious enemies;
  • Butt Stallion’s Castle, Castle Sparklewithers, is brighter than the shiniest stars and more magical than the most majestic mages. The castle glows so brightly, the queendom is bathed in eternal light;
  • Sunfang Oasis seems like the ideal reprieve from the unrelenting heat of deserts in the Wonderlands, with its lush foliage, shimmering lagoons, and colossal ruins from civilisations long past. But unwary travelers lured in by these calming sights won’t notice the ever-nearing slither of the ferocious Coiled until it’s too late.
  • The Tangledrift beanstalk lifted up entire chunks of earth as its stem grew to pierce the heavens, creating an ecosystem unto itself high above the clouds. Some folks have adapted to this ludicrously lofty lifestyle and made the most of their surprise high-rise homes. But even towns in the sky aren’t out of harm’s reach.

It’s all to be bound together by the Overworld, which is lifted straight from the tabletop of tabletop RPGs. It switches to a third-person, top-down view of the world, your characters running around a game board that it lorded over by Tina. Though it’s visually on a smaller scale, there will still be plenty of secrets to uncover.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will release on 25th March 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Epic Games Store for PC. That last one’s a timed exclusive, with the game coming to other PC stores later in the year.
