Twitch Wouldn’t Give World of Warcraft Streamer Asmongold a Custom Contract

For one reason or another, there seems to be an exodus of big names going from Twitch to YouTube Gaming. DrLupo, CouRage, and TimTheTatman have all made announcements of such here recently, with the latter causing a lot of hype among the community as it means TimTheTatman and Dr Disrespect are once again on the same platform. With all of this in mind, it seems many are curious about Twitch contracts and who will make the jump next, but Asmongold doesn’t apparently seem to be one of the names in the discussion.

According to Asmongold himself, he once talked to Twitch about getting a custom contract, and the company wouldn't budge. It’s an odd thing to think about, giving that Asmongold is rather popular as a World of Warcraft streamer, co-founder of One True King, and more. Asmongold is even credited with assisting in the popularity surge of Final Fantasy 14, so why wouldn’t Twitch give him a contract is something many fans are likely curious about.

While Twitch has not commented on this (and isn't likely to), Asmongold did have a couple of ideas as to why he didn’t get one. The first thing is that he takes a lot of breaks compared to other streamers, and that may mess with Twitch’s goals and analytics for certain contracts. Secondly, because he is often critical of Twitch, he thinks the company may see him as a brand risk.

Asmongold goes on to detail his response to the situation, which was that he mad and/or bothered by it for about a day. He then came to the conclusion that he didn’t “need a stamp of approval from a group of people who don’t even like [him]” and just dedicated himself to putting on a really good stream the next day. His simple response overall was, “f*ck ‘em.”

Again, this is no official reasoning for why he couldn’t get a secured contract from Twitch, but it is certainly a possibility. Asmongold has been involved in several controversies, ranging from all the ones often happening at Twitch to those within the World of Warcraft community. Asmongold certainly isn’t the most “controversial” streamer on the internet, but he has expressed his opinion on many issues, some of which Twitch may take issue with.

At the same time, it’s worth mentioning that controversy in and of itself isn’t an end-all for Twitch contracts. Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel was banned from Twitch for the fifth time not too long ago, though exact reasons this time around went unstated, but he recently revealed that he had signed a Twitch contract some time ago. He’s not joining in on the exodus either, but that’s likely because his controversies are not often tied to the platform, as Asmongold’s are.
