Valve’s Steam Deck Handheld: Pre-Order Times And Where To Buy

Valve's newly-revealed Steam Deck is soon going to be available for pre-orders. Here's when you can get them, what time they'll be available and what you'll have to do to ensure you can get one.

Pre-orders for the Steam Deck are opening up at 10:00am PDT/ 06:00pm BST/ 01:00pm EST. There's only one place where you can pre-order the Steam Deck at the moment, and that's directly from Steam on the Steam Deck page.

Once pre-orders for the Steam Deck go live, adopters will have to pay a small fee of $5/£5 in order to pre-order, which Valve says is to "ensure an orderly and fair ordering process for customers when Steam Deck inventory becomes available."

The models that are available for pre-order include the basic kit which is 64GB and comes with a carrying case. That version will run you $399/ £349. The next model comes with 256GB, a carrying case, and a Steam community profile bundle for $529/£429. The final version is 512GB and comes with the fastest storage, an exclusive case, and more exclusive Steam profile content, all for $649/£569.

In regards to a release date, the Steam Deck is currently planned to begin shipping in December 2021. The system will be provided in the order that it was pre-ordered, with customers going into a line when they pay their pre-order fee. You'll be notified of stock and able to purchase as it becomes available.

There are some caveats to ordering the Steam Deck, however. For the first 48-hours, only those who have purchased something on Steam before June 2021 will be able to pre-order the system. This is to ensure that scalpers won't be able to make fake accounts and order more stock than they need to resell.

There will also be a dock made available for the Steam Deck at some point in the future, although the price and release date hasn't been specified. The dock will allow users to connect the Steam Deck to any TV or screen.
