Where To Find The Tahno O’ah Shrine In Breath Of The Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild completely revamped the Zelda series without it losing its essence. Though classic and more traditional temples are gone, they've been replaced with shrines that, although smaller, are most consistently spread out throughout the game's map.

There are also different types of shrines. Certain shrines work more like smaller dungeons with some puzzles and enemies to defeat, others require you to show how strong you are and how you apply different combat techniques, and finally, others are associated with quests and the challenge is to find them. The latter is the case of the Secret of the Cedars, associated with the Tahno O'ah Shrine.

Talk To Clavia

Although it is not necessary to activate the quest to be able to access the shrine, it's best to do so in order to understand the story behind it. To receive the Secret of the Cedar shrine quest, you have to speak to Clavia, an NPC in Hateno Village. She can be found east of the Dye Shop.

Clavia will tell you that she found a letter in an old book with an odd riddle on it. It says: "When the three summit trees become one, turn your back to them and head toward the sea. A trial encased in stone awaits you there."

Solving The Riddle

The riddle can be actually a bit confusing especially since the map is so large that it's easy to miss some details. It refers to the three cedar trees that stand atop Madorna Mountain, west of the Afromsia Coast. If you check the map of Hyrule, you'll notice three black dots that seem to line up with each other, directly north of Hateno Village. You have to line them up and then turn Link in the direction of the coast. Then, walk towards it and you will eventually come across the location marked in the image below.

Here you will find a bombable wall, that is what the riddle meant by "a trail encased in stone." Approach the wall and throw a bomb towards it, blow it up, and avoid the blast so you don't damage yourself. On the other side of the wall is where you'll finally find the Tahno O'ah Shrine.

Inside The Shrine

Solving the riddle and finding the shrine was the only challenge that you had to complete, so once you enter the shrine there are no puzzles to solve or enemies that you have to fight. Scanning the Sheikah Slate to open the shrine is all you have to do to finish the shrine quest at last. There is a chest inside with a pair of Climbing Boots and Tahno O'ah, the monk, that you have to speak to in order to obtain the Spirit Orb.
