Xbox Update Will Make Classic 360 Gamerpics Look Better on New Consoles

Xbox has recently received praise for continually updating its Xbox Game Pass library, constantly refreshing its features, and communicating with its fans by providing quality of life improvements. The most recent example involves diving into the way-back machine with the Xbox 360, with gamerpics from that beloved era being remastered.

Recently an avid Xbox fan took to Twitter to jokingly complain about the fact that his Xbox 360 Pac-Man Ghost avatar has not been fully supported through the years. Since purchasing the gamerpic for the 360, the avatar has apparently shrunk down in size with each new console (the Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X). However, an engineering lead at Xbox has tackled the issue head-on.

Twitter user @noukon originally complained about his gamerpic not looking right on the Xbox Series S|X, but the user said that they will not yield in selecting any other gamerpic. Eden Marie is the engineering lead at Xbox who made it her personal mission to fix the issue. She went as far as purchasing the exact same gamerpic, as Xbox always attempts to fall on the side of the customer. In the end, Marie made it so that the Xbox 360 gamerpics will soon be fully supported on the Xbox Series X|S by being full-sized and transparent where needed.

Eden Marie uploaded an entire thread of her findings and process in working through the multi-step journey. Fundamentally the Xbox 360 gamerpics were designed differently than the Xbox Series X|S ones. The 360 gamerpics were designed to be a square, but they did have transparency aspects in mind, which was a surprise to Eden Marie. She also brings up the fact that custom Xbox Live gamerpics respect transparency, which is pretty interesting.

In the end, Eden Marie made it possible for Xbox 360 gamerpics to be full-sized and fully functional on the Xbox Series S|X. As far as when this improvement will roll out, it is confirmed to arrive via an update in the future. According to Marie, she says it will first come with an update via the Xbox Insider Program. It is a small enough feature that it likely will not be mentioned on the release notes, but apparently all gamerpics will be supported. As such, everyone who has a favorite gamerpic from the Xbox 360 era may want to go back and select it, as in the near future it will be fully supported once again.
