Xbox Donates $10,000 To Honour Dogmeat From Fallout 4

Following the tragic news of the passing of River, the real-life dog and model for Fallout 4’s dogmeat, Xbox and Bethesda have donated $10,000 to the Humane Society.

Since the original Fallout, Dogmeat has become as synonymous with the series as the Brotherhood of Steel and the Vault Boy. As such, it was quite a shock to the internet when River, the model behind Fallout 4’s iteration passed away.

To honour River’s passing, Xbox announced through Twitter that it would be donating $10,000 to the Montgomery County Humane Society.

The Humane Society is a charity that is funded by donations and outside sources. It's an apt charity to donate to in relation to Dogmeat, as it works towards animal adoption, animal rescue, clinics, microchipping, and other related animal treatments that can usually run quite a high bill.

The Tweet announcing the donation reads, “DOGMEAT FOREVER. In honor of River, Xbox and Bethesda Studios are donating $10,000 to the Montgomery County Humane Society.”

In response to the Tweet announcing the donation from Xbox, the Montgomery County Humane Society Tweeted, "Thank you, Xbox and Bethesda Studios! MCHS is honored to be a part of River’s legacy."

Bethesda and Xbox decided to donate to the Montgomery County Humane Society specifically as the Bethesda Softworks headquarters can be found in Maryland, Montgomery County.

The Tweet also links back to a recent thread made by Joel Burgess, the owner of River and a developer who previously worked on Fallout 3, 4 and 76. The thread contains several pictures of River detailing her journey through Fallout 4's development process and how the team eventually decided to put River in the game as Dogmeat.

On the subject of River, Joel said, "River attended countless meetings; but not just to be poked, prodded, recorded and filmed as reference – her biggest job was just to BE with the team. The more they bonded with her, the more they saw Dogmeat as a character – a friend."
