Age Of Empire 4 Naval Warfare Reveal Left Fans Unhappy With The Visuals

Age of Empires 4 recently shared two teaser trailers showing off the naval warfare aspect of the game and the camel riders of the Abbasid Dynasty. While not much was revealed in these roughly thirty-second teasers, we got to see the various types of naval vessels players could build, and how elephants are apparently no match for camels. While we also got a look at the new visuals for game looks, a number of fans were not impressed.

The Naval Warfare teaser featured a number of ships including frigates and the intimidating fishing boats. It brought back that power-rush we’ve all felt in the previous games when moving our armadas across the sea, knowing that the enemy’s shoreline is about to be decimated. Massive naval battles and the ensuing chaos were also featured in the trailer.

Unfortunately, the nostalgia was short lived for many of the viewers, as they weren’t too happy with the visuals. The YouTube comments section of the trailer is filled with complaints and jokes about the ship models, the animations, and the overall graphics.

“This looks bad compared to AoE3 even AoE2 definitive edition, wtf?” said one comment. Others joked about the nostalgic value the visuals provided by saying, “I'm still playing AOE 3 and I can say it's not nostalgia that makes It better looking than this.” Some of the commenters were hoping that the visuals would improve for the final launch, but considering the October 28 release date, that seems unlikely.

The Abbasid Dynasty trailer showed off the might of the empire’s forces, with camel riders leading the charge to decimate defending forces. Siege weapons followed the initial charge to wreak havoc on the enemies perimeter walls and structures. Also featured was the House of Wisdom, the grand public academy and intellectual centre of the empire, possibly available to build as a Wonder.

The comments section for this trailer was much kinder, with most of them seeming excited for the launch and only a few saying that the visuals looked like those from Age of Empires 3.

Age of Empires 4 launches day one with Xbox Game Pass for PC on October 28, 2021.
